The city of overhead wires | My Wednesday Walk story.

What is one of the common things you will get to see in Dhaka? The answer will obviously is overhead wires. It's everywhere, the whole city is wrapped with millions of wires. Fortunately, they are mostly ethernet cables that's why the incidents are low in number.

This makes the city looks much more chaotic. Also, walking on the street, and seeing the sights are never fun only because of the wires. I don't know why the authority never takes any action!

Yesterday I went to the back for some paperwork. We had to wait at different traffic signals for more than half an hour. While sitting in the car I was seeing the city or maybe I should say wires.

There are uncountable numbers of wires everywhere. And the surprising thing is, this is one of the posh areas of our capital. In other areas, the situation is much worse.

Though there were some trees here and there. But the sun was really rough. We sure need more green than wires!

You may be thinking why so?

It's because it seems like nobody cares. There's a recent initiative to make another city overhead wire-free and it became amazing. I don't know when we will get to see such a thing in Dhaka.
Also, it's not very uncommon to see some incidents take place randomly; not much compared to the wiring system but still, we should take those numbers into the account.

Doesn't it make the city looks suffocating?

If we went to our balcony this is the exact view we get to see, overhead wires everywhere.

There could be an easy solution for it. Giving permission to any larger company/s to give ethernet connection. But no. People who are in the power of certain areas control the whole business, they don't allow others to get any connection with others. They have their internal clash, and never maintain much quality/rules, and we are the one who is suffering.

I really wish things will be different.

Wow what a crazy tangle of wires. Cooperation between companies is sometimes too much to ask I suppose.

Yeah, the situation will never get better. At least that's how it feels.

Even if it seems a lie dear friend @rem-esteem this is a problem that is seen in much of the world, there are few cities and countries that care about this, and make underground connections
I take this opportunity to wish you a beautiful day

I know many cities do have the same issue but maybe not as much as we have. It's true that we all have something good but sometimes the bads are enough to take everything down.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Brings back memories of my time in that part of the world I was always fascinated seeing all the over head cables

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

Wow - thats really interesting - I've never seen as much wiring as that anywhere. And I guess if a cable gets damaged, that they just put up another one to replace it, and leave the old one in place - nightmare !
Thanks for sharing these views !

You got it right. They never take anything down and it became overcrowded year after year.
It's crazy, I know.
Have a good day.

Wow! That's a crazy amount of cables over people's heads! If nothing changes regarding that, you will not see the sun at all because of those wires!? Btw, why do they keep those cables rolled? Isn't more efficient to keep it shorter (better signal, fewer losses)?
Anyways, the best solution is to go underground, but that depends from city to city... Maybe it's not possible to do it in Dhaka?

I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project and it will be highlighted in the next post!

We already can't see the sun 😥
I guess they roll the wires to easily identify who is the network provider+which wire they are putting hands into. Otherwise they will never find it.
The main cables goes underground but these are the home/office connections. It's crazy, I know.
The whole thing is corrupted and nobody cares to improve. That's the reason.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for the support.
Have a good day.

The situation is the same everywhere, not just in Dhaka. And these electrical cables are very close to the building. Therefore, just as the probability of a fire is high, the amount of damage caused by a fire is also high.

I agree. We have nothing to do, either accept or ignore 😥
Thanks for sharing your experience.

This is appalling! I have never seen so many overhead wires ever, and I can understand your frustrations, it makes it look ugly!
Let's hope that the initiative works soon🙏

I know, right?
Sometimes it make me sad that this view shade over all the lively things in this city. What we could do, have to live with it or ignore 😥
Thanks for taking the time to go through my post. Have a great day.

It is a shame having to live with it, just so ugly and I am sure a safety hazard as well for animals!
My pleasure, it was an enjoyable post to read 😁

How come there are so many cables like that, is there any current in each of these cables? I was shocked when I saw it and this is the first time I've seen so many cables.

They are Ethernet cable, no electricity, safe. But still looks very ugly.
