Let's explore the traditional Chai/Cha/Tea of Dhaka with me.
Tea is an essential part of the Bangladeshi lifestyle, and it is common to see people sipping tea at any time of the day.
In Dhaka, there are numerous tea stalls or "cha er dokan" located on every corner of the city. These tea stalls are typically small and simple, offering a variety of tea options, including black tea, milk tea, spiced tea, and lemon tea, among others.
A traditional one that serves the tea in a clay pot with a thick layer of milk and liquor tea is what makes it special.
Recently while exploring my new living area, I came to find this place where there were many such small tea stores. Let me show you some photos.
This is what the store looks like, packed with clay cups. I have also noticed the bamboo cups/pots on the side. People like to sip tea on them too.
You can see a huge saucepan on the counter, that is filled with tea. Usually, they boil the tea in a separate pot/kettle and add milk later with it in a cup. But here, they were cooking the tea in those huge pots.
All the shops were well decorated and packed with customers.
You can see a menu chart on the back, they sell almost 50 types of tea. But as usual, I prefer regular milk tea over everything. You can try the 'Malai Tea' that has a burnt clay flavor and is served in clay cups.
We had two cups of tea. It was good but not my personal preference. They cost $.20 each which is double than usual. But I guess, that's the best price there according to the ambiance.
In addition to the tea stalls, there were also some snack stores, which are upscale and offered a wider selection of snacks, and desserts. These tea houses and the whole place with 20 other shops are popular among the younger generation and are often used as meeting places for friends or a place to hang out.
The tea culture in Dhaka is an essential part of the city's social fabric, and it reflects the warmth and hospitality of the Bangladeshi people. It was a lovely evening with tea.

I drink coffee a lot I have thought about switching over to tea. I'm think it is probably healthier. I just don't know if I should go with a milk based one or a water based one. Your share makes it tempting to try milk based :)
You can try both, raw or milk tea; your tatse buds will tell you what to choose. If you are looking for something healthy, go with green tea.
I usually drink milk tea, kind of hate other teas. LoL

I like the idea of drinking tea from bamboo or clay pot. So this is milk tea in a traditional way. Milkteas in our country are iced like shakes.
That's true, it feels interesting to have a cup of tea in clay or bamboo pots.
Milk tea is our local favorite, just like, in India they prefer spice tea/masala chai.
I know, people over there prefer iced tea. But here, you will hardly find a place that sells iced tea because nobody will ask for them or probably a few gen z!
Thanks for sharing your experience. Have a great day.
Look like a vary deep tea it looks like some kind of coffee ☕☕ so cool I wish I could try it I love tea in every way
You got it right, it was deep in taste. Making tea at home is pretty easy, you can watch a tutorial and prepare it in a few minutes.
Thanks.
