Dark Clouds And Visiting Squirrel

avatar

Greetings! Welcome to Round 159 of Love The Clouds Contest. For more information check @tobetada 's post Here

A typical morning at the start of December when the heavy puffy dark clouds are moving across the sky leaving blue openings.

I noticed how dark the sky was while at the kitchen table drinking my morning coffee.

With food already set out for the Blue Jays, I thought the squirrel would be along soon.

Here he is…. A dark cloudy sky doesn’t stop the little red squirrel, with half the tail missing, from visiting to get his peanuts on the back deck.

Over the years , a few squirrels have visited with part of their tail missing. This happens when they fight for territory. They chase one another and pull at the tail of the one fleeing.

They need their tail to balance especially when climbing trees. This little one must have been the winner of the tail pulling as the only one I’ve seen for awhile.

Thanks @malos10 . Squirrels know a good thing and keep coming back, especially for nuts. Actually I can pet this one but I don’t that often.

I have not seen this before, I have seen them with their tails a bit bald but without tails it is rare.

My wife and I always enjoy seeing the squirrels in a plaza here and have even had the opportunity to feed some up close and personal. Beautiful photos, thanks for sharing they look great.

Thank @jackdeathblack for your lovely comment. I had one come by a few years ago with only a stub left for a tail. I felt sorry for him and always tried to give him a treat, He had to be careful for if this other squirrel saw him he would chase after him. They are very territorial. It would be hard for them to balance without the tail when climbing trees.

Our clouds here are only gray in gray at the moment and instead of snowflakes, raindrops fall from the clouds - I like your clouds much more 😊

What a lovely squirrel 😀 I can hardly imagine that they fight so hard that they pull the tail off an opponent 😮

Wishing you a lovely Sunday, dear Jo 🤗🌞

Hannes, it’s nice to see you back on Hive…or in Hive, 😊 even if only for short periods.

Our weather is not too cold yet but that’s coming. The weathermen predict more wind than usual with all the talk about unpredictable weather. I’m smiling after I wrote … about more wind than usual. 😆
It’s a busy time of year with everyone out and about Christmas shopping already.

I think they manage to pull the tail easier when the squirrel climbs up a tree and the aggressor is right behind. I saw one squirrel with only a stub left.

Have a great week ahead, 🤗.

Hi Jo,

it's still raining here and at the moment it's raining heavily. If it were snowing that much I wouldn't be able to find my car 😉

I have seen squirrels hurt after fights, but I really never have heard about squirrels doing such things as pullling their tails - strange 😀

Hope your week is great as well 🤗🌞

Clouds look brilliant against deep blue sky.

Poor little squirrel needs that tail to regrow, never realized that pulled each others tails defending territory.

Thanks Joan and for the LUV. Unfortunately their tails don’t grow back and it makes it difficult for them to survive when pulled down to a stub.

Have a great week ahead. 😊

Squirrel without a tail must adapt to survive, sad to learn their tail does not grow back.

We don't have them in our area, seldom see them, never had the opportunity to sit and survey them so thanks for information, have a wonderful day.

The clouds had almost completely obscured the blue sky, but they were still stunningly beautiful.
