Mushroom Picking Adventure in the Black Forest, Germany

Hello everyone. Since we are in the middle of mushroom season, we decided to head into the forest in search of mushrooms. We set off towards the forest near Titisee-Neustadt. This town is located in the famous Black Forest region of the Baden-Württemberg state in Germany. It is especially popular for its natural beauty, lake and mountains. We parked our car in the parking lot near the entrance to the forest and entered the wooded area. We could hear the rustling of the leaves beneath our feet. The autumn was beautiful, with orange and colorful leaves. It seemed like it would be difficult to find mushrooms today because there was greenery everywhere. But we didn’t lose hope and set off on our mushroom hunt.

The Black Forest is home to many different types of mushrooms. The King oyster mushroom is the most common and beloved edible mushroom found here. There are also Chicken mushrooms, Honey mushrooms and Milk mushrooms, among others. But some are edible, while others are poisonous. Here's the first mushroom we found. An interesting fact about these mushrooms is that they don't grow randomly. they grow in circles. We spotted the first mushrooms right off the path, growing in a ring around a tree. They had formed a perfect circle with the grass and were hidden there. These are some of our favorite mushrooms. You have to be careful not to step on them because they’re almost invisible among the grass.

On our way back, we gathered the mushrooms and took them to the car, where we had a delicious dinner later that evening. We were near the town of Titisee-Neustadt in the mountains, where there were impressive views. You could see far into the distance, with a distant town surrounded by mountains. The view was amazing. We found new mushrooms and these were the same species but much bigger almost giants. However, we were collecting the ones that hadn’t fully grown. A little lower down, we also came across the small, cute mushrooms, which were perfect for picking. They were adorable. We picked some of them, but others had really grown large.

Some mushrooms were hard to spot. They were the same color as the leaves that had fallen from the trees and it was difficult not to mistake them for leaves. Their surroundings had created a natural camouflage.

We found a giant mushroom and then we came across another one. There was a fake boletus mushroom here too. We were a bit late, but next year, we will definitely come earlier to collect the white mushrooms here. The area was full of white mushrooms, forming perfect circles. We tested a mushroom that resembled a Polish mushroom. It should start to bruise when you press on it. Yes, it was bruising. Fantastic. Sometimes, we also find green mushrooms. Today we found one and it was very beautiful. It was both soft and smelled great.

We’ve noticed that some mushrooms, after being picked, are past their prime. We usually leave these types of mushrooms on tree branches. Later squirrels come and eat them. Instead of letting them go to waste, they become a food source for squirrels and other creatures. In the Black forest region, it’s not just humans who collect mushrooms in the forest, but also many animal species. Wild boars, squirrels and foxes, for example, eat mushrooms or help spread them as part of the ecosystem.

There were some beautiful opiate mushrooms on a tree. They had completely covered the tree and all we had to do was place our bag underneath and cut them. The next mushrooms looked exactly like fox mushrooms and their smell was also similar to that of fox mushrooms.

The weather was perfect, luckily. If it weren’t for the yellowed leaves on the ground, we might have thought we were walking through a summer forest. Of course, there were also many trees dressed in autumn colors. Moreover, the mushrooms we encountered deep in the forest reminded us once again of nature’s cheerful and mysterious side during this season.

After walking a bit, we saw a new hunter's cabin. Since I could see better from a distance, I thought about climbing up to the cabin to observe the mushrooms for a moment. It also seemed like a good spot for a picnic. No matter where we went, we were searching for mushrooms! We walked happily, singing cheerful songs. This really is a beautiful forest! It’s wonderful to sit here and enjoy nature.

We collected a few different types of mushrooms, four varieties in total, including the Polish mushrooms. Then, we walked and enjoyed the beautiful views. The forest was amazing, with the leaves yellowing as winter approached. We gathered our mushrooms, sang songs and happily returned home. It was a fantastic day!
