$100 Crypto.Com Deposit Led To A $10 Million Credit Mistake

Errors, errors and errors are bound to happen, even in crypto, but this error made by crypto.com seems to be the highest I have seen so far, how can crypto.com mistakenly credit a woman $10 Million to her bank account when she tried withdrawing just $100 from her crypto.com account to her persona bank account. This is the case of an Australian woman who checked her phone one day and saw a credit of $10 Million into her bank account when she expected to be seeing just $100. Funny part about this is that crypto.com didn’t notice this error till about 7 Months later, I wonder if the person who made such mistake still have their job, because it was an expensive mistakes.

It took 7 months before crypto.com noticed the mistakes and contacted the woman, but unfortunately, the woman had spent the money. Its possible that the woman waited few days to see if the company would contact her, as they didn’t, she decided to spend it, or may be she didn’t wait. I have tried putting myself in the woman’s shoes, if I was to be in her position, what would I do? Will I return the money or will I keep it? Well, the woman did what most humans will do, which is spend the money. She spent some on a house, paid mortgage, bought a car, paid her debts, paid her sisters mortgage and gave her daughters some money then bought furnitures and other things. Crypto.com realises this mistake about 7 months later and decided to demand for their money but unfortunately the woman had spent most of it, now they are suing the woman for theft.

The woman and her husband pleaded not guilty, because, obviously they didn’t steal the money from crypto.com directly indirectly, the money was sent to their account, if we are judging this from a legal point of view, this shouldn’t be considered at all. From the records and books, crypto.com sent her those money, it could be a gift, or whatever, but that money was sent to her account and any money that enters your account is considered yours right? But from a moral point of view, it can be considered theft, because they obviously know that the money was a mistake, in what universe do you deposit $100 and get $10 Million credit, you can only see that in gambling. Unfortunately, since the woman and her husband have both pled not guilty to theft, if they lose they will have to spend a long time in jail, but if they win, I guess they will have to keep the money.
