Friendship comes with sacrifices

As humans, we can't avoid life challenges; at some point in our lives, we would face some situations that might look like a stumbling block on our way to success or greatness, but not giving up on them is what makes us victorious. I'm not the type that keeps friends, but the few ones I have had make one or two positive impacts in my life. If you can't help me grow in every area of my life in a way that will define my success, then we can never be friends. I love having people who have visions and are goal-getters around me; it always puts me on my feet to do more for myself.

I've met different people in the journey of my life that have supported me so much when I had no one to turn to. I have been so blessed with good people around me every time, even though I always shy away from having so many people around me. I met some online while some were offline, but irrespective of where I met them, they have been so good to me, always responding to me when I call even if it's not convenient for them, and this is the beauty of friendship, which I will remain grateful for because good people are scarce these days, so when you have any around, it's worth celebrating.

A few years ago, I met a lady who turned out to be the best part of me ever since then. I met her in my second semester in my first year at school, even though I had a few misconceptions about her due to how she dressed, but it's true, one shouldn't judge a book by its cover. In the year 2022, I had a few challenges that nearly led me into depression, and she not only stood with me as a friend but also as a sister, and this strengthened the bond we shared, and she said something that amused me even when I didn't trust her enough to open up to her.

"Is it only people bonded by blood that can be of help to one's life? If you find it difficult to trust me even now that we are close enough to share things together, then I am so disappointed in you," was her words to me.

After fighting it in my spirit, I decided to tell her about the challenges I was going through then, which was the debt I incurred. I was on the verge of giving up when she came through for me. My friend got the amount of money I needed and also extra for my upkeep. I was surprised and speechless when she gave the money to me, and that day she won my heart, but then one good turn deserves another.

After that incident, we became closer, and the bond between us grew stronger. Then I promise to always have her back, and since then we've been through a lot together, going through every phase of life with each other. But a few months ago, she was in a situation that was life-threatening, and I was grateful I was in good shape financially to help her out of it successfully. She was hospitalized, and I had to leave school to be with her all the way, and I'm glad she recovered in no time. Being able to help her when she needed me was a happy thing for me because she had gone through tough times for me too, and doing that for her wasn't such a big deal.
