La primera temporada de Carnival Row es una serie de fantasía oscura que explora temas como el racismo, la xenofobia, la opresión, el amor y la guerra, la traición, venganza, corrupción, magia, terrorismo y destino. La serie se ambienta en un mundo donde las criaturas míticas han huido de sus tierras natales debido a la invasión de los humanos y se refugian en una ciudad llamada The Burgue, está ambientada como una ciudad londinense fictícia e inspirada en el siglo XIX.

Esta série fue creada por Rene Echevarria y Travis Beacham para la plataforma de Prime Vídeo y fue una producción rodada en Praga. Cuenta actualmente con dos temporadas, la primera tiene 8 episodios de 50 minutos aproximadamente. Su estreno fue en el año 2019, el 30 de agosto; así mismo contó con libros y hasta un cómic, lanzados algunos de ellos para la misma época si mal no recuerdo, ya que para ese año llamó bastante mi atención pero no me había animado realmente a verla, o por lo menos no contaba con el tiempo necesario.

The first season of Carnival Row is a dark fantasy series that explores themes of racism, xenophobia, oppression, love and war, betrayal, revenge, corruption, magic, terrorism and destiny. The series is set in a world where mythical creatures have fled their homelands due to the invasion of humans and take refuge in a city called The Burgue, set in a fictional London town inspired by the 19th century.

This series was created by Rene Echevarria and Travis Beacham for the Prime Video platform and was a production shot in Prague. It currently has two seasons, the first of which has 8 episodes of approximately 50 minutes. Its premiere was in 2019, on August 30; it also had books and even a comic book, some of them released around the same time if I remember correctly, since by that year it caught my attention but I hadn't really encouraged myself to watch it, or at least I didn't have the necessary time.

Vi muchas páginas promocionando los libros, uno de ellos era Amazon, por su puesto, y muchas veces me tente a comprarlos pero lo posponía, hasta que pasó el tiempo y se me olvidó totalmente el asunto. Pero cuando estuve en Ecuador compartiendo con uno de mis hermanos mayores que es adicto a las series y películas, típico de la familia. Se encontraba viendo uno de los episodios de Carnival Row pero de la segunda temporada, comencé a verla junto a él pero no me había fijado del nombre, sólo me había llamado la atención ya que algunos personajes y la historia se me hacía familiar, pues en ese año de estreno me había visto algunos cortos de esta serie.

Así que cuando le pregunté, me dijo que se trataba de Carnival Row, cuando comenzó a explicarme claramente me acordé de todo, así que lo dejé solo en la sala y me fui al cuarto a ver la primera temporada jajajaja. Pues quería verla desde el principio sin saltarme absolutamente nada. Pero comencé a verla unos días antes de regresar a Venezuela, así que apenas llegué a casa, me dispuse a terminarla y darme buen tiempo para hablarles de ella.

I saw many pages promoting the books, one of them was Amazon, of course, and many times I was tempted to buy them but I put it off, until time passed and I totally forgot about it. But when I was in Ecuador sharing with one of my older brothers who is addicted to series and movies, typical of the family. He was watching one of the episodes of Carnival Row but of the second season, I started to watch it with him but I had not noticed the name, it had only caught my attention because some characters and the story was familiar to me, because in that year of release I had seen some shorts of this series.

So when I asked him, he told me that it was Carnival Row, when he started to explain clearly I remembered everything, so I left him alone in the room and went to the bedroom to watch the first season hahahaha. I wanted to watch it from the beginning without skipping anything. But I started watching it a few days before returning to Venezuela, so as soon as I got home, I decided to finish it and give myself plenty of time to tell you about it.

La primera temporada se centra en la relación entre el detective humano, Rycroft Philostrate, y la hada refugiada, Vignette Stonemoss, que se reencuentran después de creerse muertos durante una guerra. Juntos, deben enfrentarse a los misterios, las intrigas y los peligros que acechan en la ciudad.

La serie tiene un buen ritmo y un buen equilibrio entre la acción y el drama. Los actores hacen un buen trabajo al darle vida a sus personajes, especialmente Orlando Bloom y Cara Delevingne, que tienen una buena química como Philo y Vignette. Los personajes secundarios también son muy carismáticos y aportan humor y diversidad a la historia. Algunos de mis favoritos son Imogen Spurnrose, una aristócrata que se enamora de un fauno; Agreus Astrayon, el fauno rico y misterioso que se muda al vecindario de Imogen; Tourmaline Larou, una poetisa hada y amiga de Vignette; y Runyon Millworthy, un titiritero ambulante que viaja con una troupe de kobolds.

The first season focuses on the relationship between the human detective, Rycroft Philostrate, and the fairy refugee, Vignette Stonemoss, who are reunited after believing each other dead during a war. Together, they must face the mysteries, intrigues and dangers that lurk in the city.

The series is well paced and has a good balance between action and drama. The actors do a good job of bringing their characters to life, especially Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne, who have good chemistry as Philo and Vignette. The supporting characters are also very charismatic and bring humour and diversity to the story. Some of my favourites are Imogen Spurnrose, an aristocrat who falls in love with a faun; Agreus Astrayon, the rich and mysterious faun who moves into Imogen's neighbourhood; Tourmaline Larou, a fairy poetess and friend of Vignette; and Runyon Millworthy, a travelling puppeteer who travels with a troupe of kobolds.

Estos personajes favoritos de la primera temporada, comienzan a gustarme mucho más a inicios de la segunda temporada ya que veo como realmente logran desarrollarse aún más, pero por ahora me enfoco en esta primera temporada, ya que aún no he terminado la segunda y apenas voy en el tercer episodio.

La primera temporada sin duda es una serie muy original y entretenida, que combina elementos de fantasía, misterio, romance y política. Me gustó mucho el diseño de la ciudad y de las criaturas, tienen una gran variedad y personalidad. También me pareció interesante la forma en que la serie explora los temas que ya les mencioné, pero me impacta más ver como el racismo, la xenofobia, el colonialismo y la religión, afectan a los personajes y a la trama, en un mismo episodio estos elementos le dan giros notorios a cada escena lo que lo hace bastante dinámico y fácil de ver.

Ocurren tantas cosas en un sólo episodio que ocupa toda tu atención en cada detalle y no te permite parpadear. Me gusta como debaten estos temas tan interesantes que facilmente los podemos comparar a la realidad y actualidad de hoy en día.

Mi episodio favorito de la primera temporada fue el sexto, titulado “Unraveling”. Creo que este episodio fue el más dramático y revelador de la temporada, y uno de los que me dejó con muchas más ganas de ver el siguiente. Se destapan muchos secretos del personaje principal; además de eso, ocurren hechos épicos como la escena de uno de los enfrentamiento con The Darkasher. También nos muestra la profundidad y la intensidad de la relación entre Philo y Vignette, que tienen que superar muchos obstáculos para estar juntos.

So much happens in a single episode that it occupies your attention in every detail and doesn't allow you to blink. I like how they discuss such interesting topics that we can easily compare them to today's reality and actuality.

My favourite episode of the first season was the sixth one, titled "Unraveling". I think this episode was the most dramatic and revealing of the season, and one of the ones that left me most looking forward to the next one. A lot of the main character's secrets are uncovered; on top of that, epic events such as the scene of one of the showdowns with The Darkasher occur. It also shows us the depth and intensity of the relationship between Philo and Vignette, who have to overcome many obstacles to be together.

Pero hablando de las historias que tiene cada personaje y de cómo se entrelazan unos con otros, la historia de romance que más llamó mi atención y una de mis favoritas, porque toca mucho el tema social, es el de Imogen Spurnrose y Agreus Astrayon. Sin duda, ellos logran dejarte sin respiración, y muchas veces logran trasmitir esas sensaciones y deseos que ambos afloran.

En conclusión, creo que Carnival Row es una serie muy recomendable para los amantes de la fantasía urbana y fantasía oscura, ofrece una historia original, unos personajes complejos y un mundo fascinante. Es una obra de arte cinematográfica que cuenta con una excelente escenografía muy realista y fantástica, con actores reconocidos y una lista de comentarios positivos tanto de usuários como de críticos profesionales.

But speaking of the stories that each character has and how they intertwine with each other, the romance story that most caught my attention and one of my favourites, because it touches on the social theme, is that of Imogen Spurnrose and Agreus Astrayon. Without a doubt, they manage to take your breath away, and many times they manage to convey those feelings and desires that both of them bring up.

In conclusion, I think Carnival Row is a highly recommended series for fans of urban fantasy and dark fantasy, offering an original story, complex characters and a fascinating world. It is a cinematic work of art with excellent realistic and fantastical set design, renowned actors and a list of positive reviews from both users and professional critics.
