A few days ago I was reading a post from my friend @lileisabel who wrote in this community and it aroused my curiosity, so always following my wife's advice I went to read the rules and I really liked the theme of the community. A space where you can share your experiences and the important things that happen to us on a daily basis, I liked it a lot.

This day I am going to tell you about a visit to a hospital where my wife and I went to take our little girl for a medical appointment. Don't be scared, I'm not going to talk about illnesses or doctors, nobody likes to read too much about that, at least I don't, what I want to share with you is how much fun my little girl had at the doctor's. This seems contradictory because children don't like hospitals, but this one had something special that made the visit fun. Let me tell you.

Hace pocos días leía un post de mi amiga @lileisabel que escribió en esta comunidad y despertó mi curiosidad, así que siguiendo siempre los consejos de mi esposa me fui a leer la reglas y me gustó mucho el tema de la comunidad. Un espacio donde cuentes tus vivencias y lo importante que nos sucede a nuestro diario me gustó mucho.

Este día del que les voy a contar es sobre la visita a un hospital al que fuimos mi esposa y yo para llevar a nuestra niña a un turno médico. No se asusten, no voy a hablar sobre enfermedades ni doctores, a nadie le gusta leer mucho sobre eso, al menos a mí no, lo que les quiero compartir es lo bien que la pasó mi niña en el medico. Esto parece contradictorio porque a los niños no les gustan los hospitales, pero este tuvo algo especial que hizo que la visita se convirtiera en algo divertido. Les cuento.

The name of this hospital is Juan Manuel Márquez, but here everyone knows it as " The Paediatric Hospital of Marianao" because that is the municipality where it is located. It is a very large hospital that attends to many paediatric specialities. It has an area for consultations of different specialities, and there is where we were.

El nombre de este hospital es Juan Manuel Márquez, pero aquí todos lo conocen por " El Pediátrico de Marianao" por ser ese el municipio donde se encuentra. Es un hospital muy grande que atiende muchas especialidades pediátricas. Tiene un área destinada a las consultas de las diferentes especialidades, y ahí era donde nos encontrábamos.

Hospitals are usually cold and unwelcoming places (at least the ones I have visited), but this particular hospital has made an effort to create a nice and pleasant environment for the children. Upon entering we were all amazed to see a pond full of goldfish. It is a large, beautiful and very well kept artificial pond, bordered with natural stones and fern plants. There were several children around, all of them very interested in this small space. On the back wall there are ornaments with several figures, I seemed to me to be the little dwarfs from Snow White. The whole set looks very colourful and the children enjoy it very much, it is good entertainment and for a moment they are sure to forget that they are in a hospital.

Había varios niños alrededor, a todos les llama mucho la atención este pequeño espacio. En la pared del fondo hay adornos con varios muñecos, me pareció que eran los enanitos de Blanca Nieves. Todo el conjunto luce muy colorido y los niños lo disfrutan mucho, es un buen entretenimiento y por un momento seguro olvidan que están en un hospital.

After stopping there for a moment, we went up to the consultation room, where my daughter had another surprise that kept her very entertained. It turns out that all the walls were decorated with colorful stickers, vinyl stickers, and various pieces of plastic with designs of animals, flowers, and animated characters. Some were murals that spanned the entire wall. And this was the main entertainment that kept her busy most of the time 🙏.

Luego de detenernos un momento allí, subimos a la sala de consultas, donde mi hija tuvo otra sorpresa que la mantuvo muy entretenida. Resulta que todas las paredes estaban decoradas con coloridas calcomanías, pegatinas de vinilo y varias piezas de plástico con diseños de animales, flores y personajes animados. Algunos eran murales que abarcaban toda la pared. Y este fue el entretenimiento principal que la mantuvo ocupada la mayor parte del tiempo 🙏.

This was a surprise for my little girl and for us as she was happy the whole time. Being among these drawings made her feel very comfortable and the whole time she didn't remember that she had to see the doctor, nor did she ask if she was going to have an injection. There were many ornaments, and I had to take her to see each one of them, she also wanted me to take pictures of some of them, especially the ones with a line to measure her height, and she wanted to know how tall she was. And of course she wanted to record the moment with a photo, she loves having her photos taken. The picture she liked the most was of a mermaid with blue hair, and a big tree with branches full of colourful flowers.

Esto fue una sorpresa para mi niña y para nosotros ya que estuvo alegre todo el rato. Estar entre estos dibujos la hizo sentir muy cómoda y en todo el rato no se acordó de que tenía que ver al médico, ni preguntó si la iban a inyectar. Había muchos adornos, y tuve que llevarla a ver cada uno de ellos, también quiso que le tomara fotos en algunos, especialmente en aquellos que tenían una línea para medir la estatura, y ella quiso saber cuánto media. Y por supuesto dejar plasmado la constancia del momento con una foto, le encanta que le tomen fotos. El dibujo que más le gustó fue el de una sirena de pelo azul, y de un gran árbol con las ramas llenas de flores muy coloridas.

It was time for the consultation and, although she was a bit nervous, the staff were very attentive and made her feel comfortable. Fortunately, everything went well: the tests were correct and the doctor gave us some explanations and indications - and best of all, she didn't have to have any injections! She always worries about getting an injection. On our way out, it goes without saying that we had to pass the fish pond again and stay for a while. In the end she left very happy, the next time we have to bring her here she will surely come with more wishes, because she will remember how much fun she had.

Llegó el momento de la consulta y, aunque se puso un poco nerviosa, el personal del lugar fue muy atento y lograron que se sintiera cómoda. Afortunadamente, todo salió bien: los análisis estaban correctos y el médico nos dio algunas explicaciones e indicaciones. ¡Y lo mejor de todo, no tuvo que recibir ninguna inyección! Ella siempre se preocupa por si la van a inyectar. Cuando íbamos de salida, de más está decir que nuevamente tuvimos que pasar por el estanque de peces y quedarnos un rato. Al final ella salió muy contenta, la próxima vez que tengamos que traerla seguro va a venir con más deseos, porque se va a recordar de lo bien que la pasó.

In Cuba, we are going through a difficult economic time and sometimes the hospitals do not have all the resources they need. However, the medical care and the health staff are very dedicated, especially when it comes to caring for children.

I was really pleased with the care I received and the efforts of the hospital management to make it a welcoming place where children can feel at ease and relaxed.

En Cuba, estamos atravesando un momento económico complicado y, a veces, los hospitales no cuentan con todos los recursos necesarios. Sin embargo, la atención médica y el personal de salud son muy dedicados, especialmente cuando se trata de atender a los niños.

Quedé realmente complacido con la atención recibida y con el esfuerzo de la dirección del hospital por hacerlo acogedor, un lugar donde los niños puedan sentirse a gusto y relajados.
