Plot: Bonding of brother and brother
Book reading is one of my favorite hobbies. But due to the pressure of academic studies and other daily workloads, it's difficult to manage time to read a good book. Somehow, I managed to find time, and I have read many good books. Some books hold a special place in our hearts. One of them is 'Pather Panchali,' written by one of Bangladesh's prominent authors, Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay.
There is a film also based on this book directed by another legendary filmmakerSatyajit Roy. This film won oscer that time. This film is considered as a cult classic.Actually, this book is about the bonding of a brother and a sister, and along with this, it depicts the deep emotion of a village.
Protagonists:
Durga: The main character is a girl named Durga. She is agile and loves to move freely. Though she is a girl, there are no restrictions she follows. She runs through the entire village, collects fruits, and plays with the girls all day. She belongs to a poor family.
Opu: Opu is the younger brother of Durga. Opu is quite shy in nature, always dependent on his sister.Though they had to go through extreme poverty, it never affected their enjoyment and their bonding. All
day, Opu plays and passes time with his sister, Durga.
Along with these characters, there are some more important characters like their mother and father. They play an important role in portraying the sentiment the writer wants.

At the beginning of the story, we see how Durga and Opu are enjoying their
childhood. They belong to a poor family, lacking decent clothes. They have to suffer a lot, but they never object to it. They never feel sad for this reason. Some of Durga's friends belong to rich families; they can buy everything they want, but Durga's family can't.
At one point, an ice cream seller comes to sell ice cream. All the children want to eat ice cream. The rich children buy ice cream, but they don't buy for Durga. It's a heartbroken moment. This discrimination is so cruel, something we see so frequently in our society. However, Durga never minds it.
Though Durga's family is poor, they are well-respected in the community. Her father once said that once he finds work, their financial condition will improve.
For this reason, he goes to the city to find work.
Once, Durga went to a wedding party of her neighbor where she liked a girl's locket. She stole it and hid it in their home. When it was known that the locket
was stolen, the girl indirectly indicated Durga and searched Durga's home. But fortunately, she didn't find it. After some days, Durga and Opu took a shower in rainwater. Then, Durga got a fever and stuck to bed. At first, Opu and his mother thought that she would get well soon, but unfortunately, her condition became worse day by day. Then, one day, Durga died. Yes, this is the most tragic scene that shocked me. Literally, I cried in this scene. Opu then became very alone; he lost his soulmate forever. He couldn't believe that Durga was no more in this world.
After some days, Durga’s father came home from the city. He had bought many
things for the family members and for Durga. But alas, he came to know that his loving daughter was no more in this world. The death of Durga made the whole family unstable. After some days, the family made the decision to move to another city.
This story is a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Sometimes, it makes us so happy.
Sometimes, it makes us nostalgic. And at the end, it makes us so emotional
because of its tragic ending.
Here is a interesting part that when after the death Opu’s family were shifting to another area Opu got the locket which Durga actually stoled. Opu kept it secret,
told no one. It has deep meaning. He kept the faults secrete also should kept secret other’s fault.
This story is a great example of how reality works. There is not always a happy ending in our life, and it's very rare that everything goes well. Reality often disappointing. We all should have the patience to accept reality. Life is all about ups and downs. This story also depicts the pure bonding of brother and sister.
How beautiful this relationship is. The writing of this is also very natural and friendly to read. The writer wrote with a pure soul that makes it livelier. When we read the book, we can connect with the story and feel it very easily. That makes this simple story so relevant.
So, I recommend everyone to read this masterpiece of Bangla literature. Everyonemust enjoy it.
