We all some talent that we discovere suddenly. Sometimes we get acknowledged about it from childhood. Sometimes its take time to explore the talent inbuild in us.Today I will tell you my untold story of my talent.
I was ten or eleven years old. I used to play sports all day. On school holidays, I used to leave the house in the morning. I used to come back in the noon, eat and go out again and never return home before evening. So did I play the whole day? I used to play cricket. My favorite game. While playing I noticed that I was so good at it effortlessly .I could easily play big shots. I could win matches easily. Then I thought that I can become a good cricketer if I get admission in a professional cricket academy. So after keeping that hope for a long time, one day I said at home that I want to become a cricketer. But my parents were not willing to agree.

They wanted me to grow up to be a doctor or an engineer. But cricketer is not at all. This is because then in our country sports were not seen as very profitable. It was thought that no career could be made in sports. However, they did not say anything wrong because life would have been very miserable if one person could not make a career in cricket who was professionally involved. And then our country was not a established cricket country. Our country was in developing period. But since I had the talent, I could definitely do something good in cricket ,so much faith was in me.
I persisted so much. I did not eat and drink well for weeks so that my parents would agree. But they were not agreeing to let me join the academy. Then one day my father told me that I have talent and he was very happy with it. But since we are a middle class family , it is not right to take up sports as a career. We had not that lavish that my family support me if failed in cricket carrier. Then if I still wanted, I could be. He wouldn't make any obstacle.
Then I thought well. Thousands of boys are admitted to the academy.Everyone doesn't get a chance in the national team anymore. And playing good doesn't mean I am the best .If I don't get a chance in the national team then my career will be ruined. And I am the only son of my parents. They are looking at me. They want my bright future. So I decided not to join the academy. I have to accept what my parents said. I am not willing to do anything based on my parents' words. At the end of the day, seeing the smiles on the faces of parents gives me peace.
So what's your opinion about my decision?

Hmmm this is such a touching one, it's such a pity to see you weren't able to fully explore the possibility of being a professional cricket player, your parent mean well for you and they don't want to waste your time pursuing the career and experience disappointment if you weren't pick.
I wish you all the best in your career path.

It's always a pleasure.
Wow, I guess Nigerian parents are not the only kinds that don't see a career in sports. But I can understand how your parents felt... being their only son, they're insecure about your future and I guess they only want what's best for you.
It's unfortunate that you had to let go of your talent and dreams but it's for the best. I think it was sweet and noble of you to choose your parents happiness. I'm sure you won't regret it as long as you're enjoying your new field of study.
I wish you all the best of luck! 🤗❤️
