Three birdies for Three Tune Tuesday

One stone - three birds! erh, I wanted to say - three songs!.. and three artists, as well. Anyway, the tune behind them is all the same. Follow me!

Here is the tail end of this story. However, depending which side to look from, can also be considered as its beginning. Hanging out at YouTube a few days ago, I came across this video (please open it in a separate window).

Елена Шеремет - Зажигалочка

(unofficial video; from «Lady-sax» LP; 2005)

The artist's name given ('Elena Sheremet') - meant absolutely nothing to me (DYOR, now I am in the know, in the 2000s it was a bright name in the Russian pop scene, but I'm not a fan). But the videofeed of this #diy clip certainly tells me much more, more than the author originally wanted to tell.

This is how any work of art is always being created not only by its author, but also by the reader (viewer, listener, etc). Performer have changed the track's title on her LP to 'Incendiary' (for correct original name, read below), and the clipmaker added even more, prefacing the video with subtitle: 'Scenes from the life of warmongers and revolutionists'.

The clip created by @fufel008i houses some luxurious video feed, resurrecting the turbulent history of XX century. Thanks to it, the song gets a new dimension: bittersweet, dramatic. When I watch it, I want to cry, can anyone explain why?...

I listened to the song three times in a row, enjoying... and wondering how I missed such a masterpiece at one time and left it unknown? heard many times, but just in a new wrapper. And a week later, deja vu turned into the realization that I heard it called...

Madness - One Step Beyond

(official video; 1979)

The song of young British group graced its debut album in 1979 and of course made their name well-known all over the world (but not to me, because back then I was too small to hang up at disco parties yet ... and the repertoire of dance parties in the USSR at that time was completely different). One way or another, those who could not read the information on the album sleeve became unaware the song was a cover version of the Jamaican singer Prince Buster. Many have lived for 40 years, and still do not know this fact.

And now, we have reached to the bottom. Yes, all the best have appeared in the 60s.

А вот теперь, мы добрались до истоков. Да, всё лучшее - появилось в 60-е.

Prince Buster - One Step Beyond

(1964; videofeed from 'Cleopatra Sand Dance')

Cecil Bustamente Campbell OD (aka Prince Buster) was a Jamaican singer-songwriter and producer, the song 'One Step Beyond' was released as AA single in 1964.

buster-1.jpg

Until now, I was not familiar with his works (I had enough doze of Ska and reggae with King Tubby, Lee Perry and Skatalities). Prince Buster was a real King of Ska. More of his tracks you can find here:

So... maybe its a rare case when cover versions are better than original - with time getting only better and better. But let's not forget that without Prince Buster, they would never have existed.

One step beyond , why there is just three words in the whole song ☺️but it's really good to watch the video in black and white and loved their performance. The first appearance is really impressive.

Other version doesn't have any words at all, -- in my opinion thats even better 😎

Fantastic Selection.

The Madness one is probably the most famous one recently as they had much success worldwide. I do think they did a good modern version too. But the videos of the other too are far more intriguing. For sure the video in the first is saying alot to those who can see or have read some history.

War is for sure a racket and the first video covers some different themes so eloquently, sometimes you can say alot without saying anything. Maybe you want to cry as it shows the ridiculousness of the whole theatre that is presented to us and how long the game has been played!

Definitely! said clip maker is a smart person, I am not sure he selected exactly what he wanted, rather he mixed up what he had available at hands (video sources and movies) but anyway, I adore the result, it clicks me, (hints me at the story even not speaking out loud the certain details) ... I definitely would love to understand all the hidden connections. Sadly, no way I can boast I do.

I've read the story behind Churchill's famous 'V' and my English is not enough to understand it in full; I just got the idea that victory is not the only meaning; being presented with palm inside (like in this video) it also means smth different (up to yours? shut the f.. up? I dont understand exactly the English slang).

All in all, Madness version is great but its good to have some extra.
PS.
As someone once put it about another song, "Having such a mega-hit on your hands, one may not worry too much about the promotion, and concoct a video clip from any bullshit." !LOLZ

Yes, the V sign being the other way around is more a F.. You gesture in the UK. Churchill has quite a colorful past, one could compare him to Johnson I guess, albeit Johnson less respectable in many ways, but on the political stage very similar, they worth both Bullingdon Boys too.

Such a charismatic, intelligent, far-sighted and especially energetic politician - is a rare species today... an almost extinct species, I'd say. 🧐

Heh, after listening to all these, I think I prefer the original, though I gotta admit, I rather did enjoy the woman flashing her boobs in the first version you shared. 🤷‍♂

Neat how you traced it back!

Ha! the boobs definitely were not the best part of that video, hehe. I'd love to know who was that person tho... maybe some famous model from swingin' 60-es? no clear idea, sadly. Tracing it back would not be possible without internet and youtube - nowadays it makes such things possible, and pretty easy! Anyway, some proof of brain was applied too. Glad you enjoyed this little research, and thanks for your visit, it is a pleasure. 🤩 !PIZZA

Ahhhhhh The Madness, such a fun collective, the videos, the sound, the madness, the fun, the whole shebang, it just works. I have never seen them live, but I hear they are among the best to see and put on a seriously fun and energetic show.

Wow, I always thought that song was a Madness original, but you just though me otherwise, and the original version is excellent too.
