Picture A Day - Indian summer goldies

After breakfast I took my daughter to school - and returned back home by the long way through the park. It was sunny, so I grabbed the camera with me and equipped it with my usual Sigma 150 mm macro telephoto lens. Before the wind drove the sky grey, I managed to enjoy maybe the last days of indian summer... a bit. The weather forecast promises rain again, tomorrow... the air temperature drops by 1-2 degrees every day. Very soon the trees stand naked, all these yellow golden leaves will end up on the ground, and after the first rain the gold will turn into mud...

location: St.Petersburg, Russia October 2024 natural light
camera/lens: Canon 5dm3 Sigma 150mm raw-conv
f/2.8 t 1/1000 ISO 400 --

Before the rains come, I would admire the beauty of these colourful leaves.

exactly the colors in my imagination when i hear these words - Indian summer
and i always was in bewilderment, why they use the word "INDIAN"
Is it about the India or the Indian ppl inhabiting North America.

So here the explanation :

"J. M. Flowers of Carpentersville, Ill., provided the following interesting explanation that predates 1778. He writes, “My wife and I were vacationing in Scotland and we overheard a Scott mention Indian Summer. I asked how the term started in Scotland. He said it had to do with sending British troops to India in the late fall. The weather was still warm in India — thus the term “Indian Summer.”"

I do not have exact colours for it, but various shades of gold with a touch of crimson and splashes of green, plus clear skies and soft warm weather - and we are there.

J.M.Flowers' explanation seems like a later "rationalization"... but it may be true. Would be funny if this is the real origin of this expression. In any way, I'll remember it! 😊 Now I have something to say to my daughter when she asks me about it.

Is this a photo or is it a painting? What kind of photography and what beautiful colors. A wonderful setting captured by an excellent photographic eye.

the gold will turn into mud...

Beautiful shot!

This is what I enjoy most about the photographs, their stories and the moods they provoke.

Only spiritually ... 😁 Btw, St.Petersburg (my city) was initially build and developed thru a period of time as a copy of classic Italian cities with its ancient architecture (thats why it is also called a Northern Venice). But, sadly, we have the sky coloured in Napoli blue only a dozen days per year. I miss it very much.

Oh, Pizza hahaha... thanks, and also for the info about your city. I like to learn new things all the time.

Спасибо и всего хорошего... фотографии под дождем тоже прекрасны. А в грязи получаются текстуры.
