Terijoki resort at the Finnish bay (15 beach etudes in monochrome) .:. EN/RU

Zelenogorsk is a small resort town located less than an hour's drive (50 km by train) from St.Petersburg. Its former name which I prefer, Terijoki, in original Finnish simply means 'Tar River'. It is located on the northern shore of the Finnish Bay of the Baltic Sea, which means it is part of the World Ocean... although of course one can not see here nor salty sea water, neither crabs or starfish or corals.

Terijoki was part of the Principality of Finland (which, in turn, was in a personal union with the Russian emperors - and was part of the Russian Empire). At the beginning of the 20th century, 50,000 summer residents came here from St. Petersburg every summer and there were about 1,400 dachas. After the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939, this land was annexed to the territory of the USSR, and although it did not regain its former status as a "resort Mecca", it is still very popular with residents of St. Petersburg - we have no other sea nearby!

View of St.Petersburg over the bay side. On the opposite side of the Gulf you can see the quarters of St. Petersburg, including the famous Gazprom "Needle" business center. As you can see for yourself, this land was damn close to the Russian "heartland" - no wonder Stalin's government was so eager to push the Soviet-Finnish border further away... But, mind you, I'm not going to turn this post into a political discussion. Instead, I suggest you equip your eyes with a black-and-white filter and see what you can see on the seashore. We'll visit the city itself some other time.

City dwellers remember that they have a sea located not too far, and pay visits.

This lady's walk looked like a meditation; or a sacred pilgrimage (at least, it looked so to me).

Here I turned my camera against the sun and took a series of photos for deliberately experimental purposes - to see how it will turn out. Well, color versions did not look attractive, but after I squeezed the RAW files in a proper manner, dried them, fried them, and punched with a mouse in Photoshop for half an hour - a very interesting monochrome rectified product was found in the sediment!

I have no such an option to play with the film processing, so I played with digital processing in Photoshop, count it like that.

This was the end of the beach, wild territory started here; the free hold of seagulls and ducks ...

...which is not less intresting for a man with a camera.

I came to Terijoky twice: in April and July. These photos were taken on the second visit. I took a lot of captures and will continue to acquaint you with this great place. Thanks for walking with me, see you next time!

I also would love to give it a visit, although the small island where I live has a lot more beaches though, but the grass (hmmm beach) in the neighbor is always better as people always say. !LOLZ
!PIZZA !hiqvotes
anyway, it must be so cold now over there in this time of the year isn't it?

I'd sell my liver (if I had a spare ofc) to better visit Bali beaches, rather then our slender northern swamps and stony platos, haha. believe me, southern nature is much more beautiful!!! (Well, of course, if your eyes are already tired of South stuff... then yes - seeing some snow and fog, freezing in a fur coat and a hat won't hurt you, !LOZS 😉 it'll even help a bit - you'll be appreciating more what you have got for now: the gentle and generous nature of the south!) 🍕 ...and let me share Hive !PIZZA with you, it was a pleasure to read your comment. 😌 PS. yeah, it is enough cold for me not wanting to go out of my home! not speaking about even a small trips out of the city, like this one.

Don't worry, maybe on the next cycle when hive hits $10 or so you can visit Bali without the need to sell your liver, you only need to take care of the flight, hotels are so cheap around here (compared to those in Europe). hahaha

yesh, you are right, sometimes we will only appreciate what we have once we are away from it. : )

When I joined this Blockchain, back in 2019, we used to joke about it a lot within a small karass of users, imagining it exactly in this terms, but ofc - kidding was mixed with real aspirations; I don't want to lie, of course I would be happy to see that my photo efforts bring me such crazy money (a new wonderful world of crypto, robots work and people run leizure life and perform creative work, blah-blah-blah...) that I can put this money in tourism, travel and go see the world. Well, 5 years later - I don't believe it anymore, now this idea remains for me a pure joke only. !LOLZ

Great photos, you are lucky to have some sea nearby. As I have been landlocked the last 10 years or so, we travel to the nearest lake as the sea is too far away for a short excursion.

The people look so happy on the beach and a great use of black and white photos. The photo that captures my eye is that of the Gazprom Needle... it should be at least 200m hidden by the earths curvature from Zelenogorsk haha! 😀

I suppose many people think about sharing color photos of the beach, it is not very common for them to do it in black and white. The absence of colors can be even more attractive in certain cases.

This is a very cool set, it was difficult to choose a favorite, but I choose this one :)

Thank you thank you thank you thank you v much for the feedback. It is indeed very hard to choose fave, obviously a few spectacular visuals here. As for me, for the Photofeed B-W challenge, I chose a different (contra-light) one, with focus on sand texture. Ofc this is all very subjective! I can imagine, how every one will choose something he may see less frequently around, so he is not used to it and not sick of it. For example, for me it definitely would be sand dunes textures etc...
NB.
As for the Color vs BW - a lot of these got really poor colour;
thats the reason I went after #monochrome. Check:

I see! These are things that can be adjusted in the edit.

I liked the photo I chose for the moment, the framing, the model's pose and her facial gesture. However, I generally like photos with lots of contrast and backlighting.

For some reason I see something special in this shot chosen by me :)

I choose the "Paparazzi-safe zone".

The composition is balanced, the background is well-arranged. The vibes of the beach.

although of course one can not see here nor salty sea water

No problem. The Black Sea isn't that salty as well, 18‰, while the average number for the World Ocean is 35‰.

The Gulf of Finland is the official name, by the way.

I was too lazy to check for the official name, shame on me!! and thanki + good karma on you for educating me. 😎 this particular photo I considered for this Photofeed B-W round (but eventually went after more abstract and experimental one). I am glad you outlined it! 😉 (view of SPb over the Gulf and similar, 3 girls leaning on such beach coach,-- thats what I was choosing from).

PPS
18 promille is good / sufficient amount of salt for us to feel the difference and enjoy it, BUT the sea habitants are more picky and simply disagree to inhabit this territory! there are not enough substances dissolved in water to build their houses, shells, skeletons, etc. (well, and less solarization of course also plays its role). so, all in all - marine biodivercity simply does not rank to the one you have in southern seas.

Yup. Also, salt balance in the blood is super important. That's why you can find starfish, urchins, and octopuses in cold Murmansk but not in subtropical Sochi.

Hey! The girl staring at the see is my favorite, since you asked ;)
What I read in this photo is a story of a girl who has a dream-come-true moment with the sea.

Excellent handling of light and contrast in each of the exposed images, it gives a touch of harmony and magic by the black and white. Greetings!

Great captures! It's nice to head to the beach and snap some exposures. The ones taken into the sun came out really cool, and very interesting. The monochrome was a nice effect as well, very well done! Looks like that was a fun day out, I'm sure it's gotten a little too chilly out there now!

Haha, winter walks can be entertaining too, but a person should be well prepared, and I am not a huge fan of such risk - I rather prefer warm homesitting and coffee drinking, than chilling on November or December wind :P Anyway, this is a pleasure to share memories, and I also have some Hive !BEER for you, my friend. Early congratulations with December #hpud, I am sure you arrived prepared. 🙏

Hey cool photo walk right there! The beach sure looks like a neat place to walk and play and makes me think of the sea.

With Russia strategically securing warm water ports for obvious reasons, you can see why they wanted this for that and vacation reasons.

Love seeing all these places I haven’t even heard of through the eyes of hivers.
