St.Petersburg - 10 street photos

Let me share a little bit from my recent walk across the streets, hunting for fresh visuals. I come to life after winter hibernation... 👧 I miss people's faces!

A Chinese girl standing at the cross-road with such a cryptic face.. I cannot read it, what does she mean... maybe even -- nothing!

Folks of older generations used to help and support each other... not like the modern youth.

Musicians, maybe?

Cool pictures, I was impressed and sad to see women asking on the side of the road to buy medicine.
Hope you can help him.

Yes... metropolis has this sort of life too - homeless folks with no ways to earn for living at all, except the hands-out-begging for help. I often give away a few coins if I have them in my pockets, especially for street musicians.
Glad you enjoyed the visuals, have a dark Hive !BEER from me. 🍻

Yeah, I'm glad to hear that.
Because there are a lot of people like that in my place, I always try to give as much as I can.
Thanks for the BEER.

You didn't catch many happy faces. Maybe the boy on the bicycle. But not really happen. More satisfied. Perhaps happy faces don't tell us very much.

Nice snapshot of St. Petersburg on a chilly spring day. Everyone is still wearing warm coats.

On the one hand, I wanted to agree... on the other hand, it's not entirely true, it's just my selection, 50:50. In general, probably you are right - there are not so many happy faces on the streets, and particularly adults have none at all. And as soon as they notice they are being photographed, their faces always take on a wary, fearful expression: living their lives, Russian people are used to be afraid of ... everything! no good news, any potential attention, interaction is unwanted and can be fraught with danger and bad consequences.
NB.
-- "You're taking pictures of my children! You must be a terrorist (the context is not spoken aloud: or a pedophile...").
-- "You 're taking pictures in the public! Only officials have a right of doing so. Do you work for a newspaper? No? then you are not allowed to photograph anyone!" (and here I mentally add: "even though this is a public space...")
-- What is your purpose? why do you take pics, what are you gonna do with them?.. (no, they are not afraid to lose their soul like that Indians, they afraid that I maybe working for some official institutions that somehow can be connected to the police, or other controllers, and that photographs can be used as evidence of... anything! their bad work, the fact that they were at the wrong time in the wrong place? ridiculous... and, yes, some of them really "don't want to be on the internet" 😨

Fascinating insight. If I compare your description to my experience taking pictures of people, I would say there is not much fear here, but there is skepticism.
I have had people come out of their homes and ask me why I was taking a picture of the house. Usually, when I explain that I'm looking for interesting doors, or architecture to photograph, they don't mind. Once I was taking a picture of a taxi and the man got very upset. He thought I might be someone who wanted to sue him. Here, lawsuits pop up all over the place...worse than police. Everyone sues everyone. We all carry extra insurance because the risk is so high. I think this was the car

When I explained that I wanted the picture for a website and he realized I wasn't suing him, he was fine with it.

Dogs, on the other hand, people don't mind that at all. They usually are quite pleased to show off their pets :)

mdaa.... different houses, different tension... but it is still there. anyway I guess here its less harsh that there.

have read about ' Everyone sues everyone' situation, but cant imagine exactly how much worse it is.... 🤓

I like these street photos...just people doing their daily routine...mundane, inconsequential, and relaxing.

mundane life, trivia, nothing serious or of special value, the stuff we see on a daily basis and dont value exactly due to that. if one can see himself in these photos, they are valuable to him and to no one else. but after a hundred years they acquire a greater value for all. this is my 'homemade' street photo hunter philosophy :)
I am happy you liked the visuals, and to get a feedback. 🤸‍♂️🤸‍♂️💃💃

Burroughs is in Russia, what a surprise!

As I remember, he wrote that if you use pure morphine, then it is not harmful, on the contrary, it preserves you as sugar preserves fruits. And here is the proof! 109-year-old Burroughs, who officially died in 1997, is where no one will look for him, on the streets of St. Petersburg, in Russia!

😁😉

Excellent sunny post-hibernation set! Coffee, Chinese, and the beggar are my favorite.

I agree, there is a good similarity here. ☘️ 2 aug ‎1997‎ was his official death date, otherwise I could only agree with your question : what does he doing in Russia, in April 2023?! Very picturesque person indeed. Thanks for all the compliments, especially if I deserved them. 🙏
