Elephant and Hare (fable)
Elephant and Hare
In green jungle, where vines, intertwined, grow to the sky,
There lived huge Elephant, majestic and very formidable.
He carried trees from place to place like toys,
And with his appearance he conquered entire jungle.
In jungle there lived Hare too, small as leaf of tree,
But very nimble, with endless supply of energy.
He happily jumped through forest between trees,
With his laughter he delighted entire neighborhood.

One day Elephant and Hare met on narrow path,
Which led to river, where water whispered its secrets.
Elephant said: "You are small and light, like feather.
What is meaning of your life, what is source of your joy?"
Hare smiled and answered Elephant this way:
"You are giant, your strength is unique universal gift,
But my lightness also has its positive qualities,
And in this world there is place for every creature, even for me."
Elephant thought about it, but didn’t understand, so he said:
"But what is your fateful destiny in our cruel world,
If I can send you into the distance with one blow of trunk?"
"Indeed, you can send me into the distance with blow of trunk..." -
Hare began his explanation, but he did not have time to explain,
Because at that moment Elephant waved his powerful trunk
And sent Hare into the distance, where even crows cannot reach.
Meaning of fable will be understood by any animal and even insect.
Don’t argue with the powers that be, and if you start arguing,
Formulate your thoughts concisely, leave aside metaphors.
There are many animals in jungle, but there is only one Elephant,
At least that's what fable says, and it's useless to argue with it,
Remember fate of Hare, who, by the way, has not been found yet.
The original text was written by me in Russian. I haven't studied English systematically, so translation may not be ideal. The main work was done by Google Translate, I just corrected obvious absurdities, where I noticed them and where I did not confuse them with brilliant insights.
