I grew up loving not only histories but also the historical events that happened in my fatherland in the past, when i talk about historical events, I mean the major events that took place in my country years before I was brought into this world, the truth is that I spent my childhood in the company of my grandparents and spending these time in their company has made love histories a lot, what are our grandparents without histories and historical events, my grandparents have never missed the chance of sharing some of these historical events with us upon any long term visitation...

The more we visited them the more I learned something new and interesting about my country, it got to a point where I got so drawn and attached to their narration that I started wishing to travel back in time just to watch how everything unfolded with my two eyes, some of these events were interesting and intriguing while the others were quite annoying to an extent, even with the annoyance i still wish to see how everything unfolded in the past but the truth is that it is very impossible...

I could only enjoy these historical events from the narration I got from my grandparents, but unfortunately for me, I lost my grandparents years ago and since I lost them, my parents have taken up the job of sharing these historical events with me, the fact is just that they are not as good as my grandparents were...

My grandmother lived for 89 years(more) while my grandfather lived more than that and I know they both would have witnessed a lot of historical events happen in their many years of living, you can't compare what my grandparents have seen in their time to what my parents has seen in their own time, the difference is clear because my grandparents have witnessed more historical events than my parents...

The last historical event my parent shared with me after the passing of my grandparents was the massive explosion that happened in Ikeja cantonment in the year 2002, this event was recorded in history and my mother was a victim of this explosion, fortunately for me i wasn't born yet, she had only my brother and sister during that time, my brother was just 2 years old when the explosion happened at Ikeja those years ago but fortunately for her she and my siblings were able to escape the explosion but we lost a lot of lives that day...

I won't be talking about this particular event since I have shared them in the past, I will be sharing something new thanks to my grandparents, join me as I share with you all that particular historical event I would love to witness firsthand...

     0CTOBER 1ST 1960...

It is indeed a fact that October 1st, 1960 is a notable date in Nigeria, this day is celebrated every here in Nigeria, which means something major happened on this particular day, I had known the meaning of this day long before I started schooling and that is because my grandparents had shared with us some stories...

Nigeria became an independent country on the first of October 1960, I heard how we were treated like slaves in our own country those years ago, we were indirectly made slaves in our own country by the British, and the British men showed our people hell, we were forced to do things we don't want to do and after years we gained independence...

October 1st,1960 was the day the British surrendered our rule to our people, this was the beginning of greatness, we became in charge of ourselves, and our actions were not forced or influenced by the British, it was made by our people...

This day is indeed a worthy event to be witnessed first handily, I will happily go back in time to witness how happy our people were when the British gave back our ruling power to us, the excitement and joy on the faces of our people is what i want to see, the large celebration would be too overwhelming, imagine being under the British colony for many years and then we got back our freedom years after, the celebration will be massive and loud...

October 1s,1960 is a very special date in Nigeria and as a Nigerian, I would love to witness it first handily for many reasons which have been listed above, I want to see what our people went through under their rule and the look on our faces when we got back our freedom from the British rule...

The lesson I hope to learn from witnessing firsthand is that; when there is life, there is always hope and that the one above does everything for a reason...

       ABACHA'S REGIME...

If I am not mistaken on this fact, General Sani Abacha was a tyrant ruler in Nigeria in the past, this is what I heard and learnt from my grandparents, parents, teachers, and textbooks...

From all my sources so far, I saw how cruel and oppressive general sani Abacha's rule was, he was regarded as one of the cruelest generals in Nigeria in the past, and my grandparents told me about the hell they went through under his military regime...

I did not only hear about his cruel ruling from just my grandparents and parents, I also read about his cruel rule in my government and civic textbooks, I saw what he did to our people, and from what I know, he ruled for good five years before general olusegun obasanjo came into power...

His years of rule were a very crazy one in Nigeria's history and I am happy to see he was taken over by a much more better general who returned everything to us the people...

I would love to witness his death, he was a tyrant ruler and his death would have been the birth of free living once again, he died on the 8th of JUNE, 1998, I am more concerned about his death than his ruling years, witnessing his death would have taught me no man would live forever and in one way or another, karma has way of catching up with one...

Lastly, I hope to learn that nothing good comes from pure evil and tyrant behavior and general sani Abacha's rule and death would be a good reference to such a lesson...

In summary, there are lots of lessons to learn from these two historical events and I am happy I was able to learn some things from these events, a big shout out to my grandparents, parents, and teachers for their teachings on these historical events...

In conclusion, I will be dropping my pen here, I hope you all had fun while reading this, Nigeria has a lot of histories and even with the fact that I couldn't witness it firsthand, I am happy I had people who witnessed it firsthand and they were there to share those events with me...

            THANKS FOR READING...

my grandparents have never missed the chance of sharing some of these historical events with us upon any long term visitation...

They derive joy in doing so and it's always fun doing that.. you listen to them and you fall in love with histories hearing the unadulterated facts.

this was the beginning of greatness,

Abacha was indeed one hell of a leader 🤧
I've also heard many sufferings he brought to us then

Great lessons you've highlighted bro

There is more to Abacha regime. He was wicked in some sense while he fought for Nigeria's interest also. It is easy to write any if such stories about Abacha because he is dead. A more wicked human that annulled the June 12, 1993 election is in his house in Minna. People are not writing about him because he is alive. In addition, General Abdulsalam took over from Abacha before handing over to Obasanjo.

Yeah, grand parents would always narrate the stories better than our immediate parents because they have at least been closer to those experiences. 1st of October 1960 I still remember my grandmother told me how the first national anthem was, and how they sang on the street with green leaves in their hands and singing "Nigeria we hail thee" 🇳🇬 which was the very first national anthem.

So sorry about the event your mom involved in the past and thank God for life too.

General Sani Abacha, that one was the enemy of this country himself. We are still not free from people like him. After him, nothing has changed. God will help us.
Thanks for sharing.
