Motor Cycle Trip To A Waterfall in Yeh Embang Village, Bali
It was a late afternoon when I entered the border of Yehembang Village where one of my uncle lives. I wanted to go this village to find out about a waterfall. My uncle agreed to help me to get there. Even though he actually had not been there, he knew the whereabouts of the waterfall.
A narrow and quiet road to the waterfall.
Following direction from my uncle, who sat behind me on my motorcycle, I got of the road to a dirt path. This path was among the people's farm. We found out later that this path was belong to the farmers who lives nearby (not really a public path). There were different plantations I saw along the path including, clove, cocoa, banana, vanilla, coffee, durian and coconut.
Some coconut were left by the side of the path waiting for buyers to take them.
My uncle got off from the motorcycle and walked in front of me checking the route. And it was a bit risky to ride the two of us in this uneven path.
He walked fast into the bush I couldn't follow him. A moment later I saw him walking back to where I was waiting. "Yup, it's not the right way!" he announced.
Okay, so, where was the right way?
There was an old house we passed and a man was sitting on a wooden bench. My uncle entered the house yard, while I was parking my motorcycle by the path.
We said hello to the man, and asked him the way to the waterfall. Komang, the man we asked, was a very friendly and polite man. He actually owned a lot of land in this area including the path (path of his land he contributed to be used as a path to go around the farm and the waterfall.)
We had some conversation with him. Later, he told us a quicker way to the waterfall through his farm. He did not usually told this path to anybody, because in the past some people "borrow" his path but stole things from the farm.
We took the path through Komang's farm. It was quite a descending path that (again!) my uncle had to walk while I was on my motorcycle.
We went further into the farm. And after about 10 minutes zigzagging, turning, nearly bumping to banana trees, finally I arrived at the river bank where the waterfall was nearby.
I left my motor cycle not far from the river and walk hurriedly to catch up with my uncle who already walked on the river. It was very shallow river. I could easily walk on the rocks in the river. Komang, the man we met earlier, told us that the waterfall did not have a lot of water during the dry season, hence the river did not have much water either. I saw what he meant.
I had to hop few times to avoid my shoes getting wet. And I had also to evade few branches of trees and bamboos that hinder the way on the waterfall. Some mosquitoes flew away when I moved the branches, and they were not friendly at all.
Slowly the waterfall revealed from behind the branches.
That's very pretty!
There was a wall of rock and water flew from its top. According to Komang, the water source was a spring on the top of the wall. No wonder the water was cool and fresh.
So, in the rainy season, a lot of water flowing covering the rock wall. Since this happened for a long time, hundreds of years, I presumed, the water left its mark on the rock. There were lines formed on the rock.
I noticed rocks on the river were a bit soft. I could easily crack them. These were actually sand stone. Sand stone, as you know, could be broken easily into ashes. This was the reason the water became a bit murky. The ashes of the sandstone dissolved in the water.
I assumed because of this, the sand stone ashes and dirt also settled at the bottom of this river hence it became shallow.
Stepping on a dead tree trunk, which served as a bridge, I managed to get closer to the waterfall and the rock wall. I noticed some plants were growing on the on the wet wall. The plants looked fresh under constant flow of water falling from the top.
There was a bamboo pole just in front of the water pole. I wonder where it came from. According to my uncle, the length of a bamboo pole was usually 6 meters. Assuming there height of this water fall was 3 times of the bamboo length, I could say this waterfall was about more or less 20 meters high.
I spent few more minutes in the waterfall. I really enjoyed the cool and refreshing atmosphere. Until finally, it was time to head back.
I must say that the journey to the waterfall was quite interesting on a motorcycle. After all, it was a cute little waterfall.
that place should be well maintained and preserved bli. I might be a good place to be used as a tourist attraction.
Yes, agreed. I am exploring places to introduce them to public. This was a great place but hardly known.
