Exploring the Serene Charms of Lansdowne: A Tranquil Cantonment Town in Uttarakhand, India
Hi Everyone This is Your friend Pulkit once again with another travel memories from my Travel Diaries.
Last month I with one of my friends decided to skip the hot weather of North India specificially in the plain region and explore some offbeat destinations in one of the best and beautiful state of India called Uttrakhand.
We only had one day with us so we decided not to go too far and we landed to Lansdowne a small cantonment town in the Garhwal region. Its is jst 270km from Delhi and one can reach their in 6-7 hours
How to reach:
Train:
We budget friendly option. One can board train from Delhi to Kotdwar which is nearest railway station to lansdowne. The ticket will cost around 300 to 700 depending on the the Seats. And from railway station, shared taxi's are available which can charge max 100 -150.
Road:
One can drive for 270 kms and can reach here comfortably.
By Air:
Nearest Air port is Pant nagar.
But this is not the best way to reach Lansdowne.
We reached Lansdowne in night at around 12 and slept in our car.
Early morning 5 am we were welcomed by the beautiful Views.
Lansdowne is surrounded by Oak and Blue pine trees. Situated at a height of 1750 meters from sea level. The Weather remains pleasant throughout the year.
In the morning we first explored the Market which is not so big and still have some British Era shops and houses.
Places to Visit
Kaleshwar Mahadev temple
It is the most visited places of Lansdowne dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Managed by the Garhwal Rifles. Its Surrounded by The mountains and Oak trees.
Amidst in the town the places to so peaceful and Quite
A Story related to the temple says 100 of years ago a cow used to came here and pour her milk at a places. When her owner tries to milk the cow there was nothing left. One day the Owner follows the cow and saw what was happening and when he dug the place he found a Shiv ling( A stone which is considered as the Symbol of Lord Shiva and is very sacred.
Bhim Pakora
This is a very huge Rock places in such a Way that by applying force you can only make it move but cant dislocate it.
IT seems like that if u apply more power it will drop but it will not .Very strange Geometrical postion and the effect of its Centre of Gravity.
You can reach here by trekking for 1.5 km from the Market.
And the trek was very beautiful and so peaceful.
Enroute Bhim Pakora
Bhulla tal
It a man made lake used for water storage and now a tourist spot.
You can explore the places and the flora and fauna.
One can boat ride in the lake and also spend some quality time with Family.
