The famous 1969 5 lire coin with inverted 1

One of the best things you experience in visiting coinshops are the opportunity to see, to touch live and to personally learn more about coins history, its minting, rarity and so on, especially when you are inquisitive enough to expand your knowledge on your passion.

My interest are always for the silver coins wether its ancient, medieval era or proof sets as long as they are silver. But this one caught my attention as it was the only aluminium coin situation amongst beautiful thaler (mostly rare). Being curious about it, I ask the attendant more info about it.

-20mm in thichness
-made of aluminium
-1 gram in weight

As you can see the total mintage from every year, the 1969 has another issue of 960 000 with inverte 1 and considered as rare.

Error coins are a totally different breed of collecting and it does get expensive. What is most fascinating are how these errors occur. This being an obvious design error that the Chief engraver should have first caught. Slipping pass Die makers, and start up inspectors. So this should have been spotted well before going into coining production.
