The Coming of the Winged Serpent

Huzzah! Have you heard the news? Recently, a deep and sprawling cave system was discovered where it is believed ancient duels were held centuries ago!

Inside, a cryptic cave painting was discovered...

Our most knowledgeable scholars and sages deduce that this is a depiction of "The Winged Serpent". What does this all mean? Other cultures sometimes mention the arrival of a similar beast accompanied by a strange foreign man, sometimes bearded. The arrival of this man of mystery riding a winged serpent is omen; that much is clear. But what does his coming foretell?

Also included in this ancient cave painting is an inset depicting the day of reckoning, the end of the world, the doom of all champions. There is also an indecipherable text. These glyphs have never been seen before and do not resemble anything we know. The information in the script is of crucial importance because it might hold the key to some of our most burning questions. Who is the rider of the serpent? When will the day of reckoning be upon us? Has it already happened? There are legends of a cataclysm that annihilates most of all life, effectively restarting the technological clock. But the ancient man of mystery arrives, teaching the remnants of civilization how to farm, cook, thrive, and of course duel before setting off into the distance again atop the winged serpent.

As a scholar myself, I find dueling difficult and complicated. In fact, I was hoping to gain insight on the subject from this newly discovered artwork. But alas the art of dueling still eludes me. I tested my mettle in one battle, but I was either ill-prepared or we were not evenly matched. Needless to say, I was defeated. I must return to my studies. There have to be more ancient texts out there for me to pore over that explain the subtleties of dueling.
