They are watching...

Life is always interesting when we find ourselves leaving a positive impact on someone's life. I have always been reminded of how doing the best wherever I find myself should be the top priority because people watch. This is something I always emphasise whenever there is a need to give a speech or just to be in the midst of some people where we get to share different ideas and perspectives on life and the word "People are always watching" doesn't stop coming.

I feel happy when my impact is felt in another person's life and not in a negative way because that is something embarrassing and disgraceful. I feel fulfilled when I am being appreciated for my service to humanity.

Some months ago, I volunteered to take some kids home lessons which take place thrice in the week as per my schedule. I didn't want to charge their parents too high, so, I said they should give me whatever is in their hearts. Seriously, I only wanted to make an impact as a teacher with the limited time I have so that when I leave, it will be felt.

I felt excited when one of the mothers of the kids called me one day and kept praising and appreciating me for what I was doing as there had been an improvement compared to when they hadn't started lessons with me. I said to myself, "I want to continue impacting lives". The truth is we feel intense happiness and fulfilment when people say good things about us. It means we aren't doing the wrong thing.

I was doing my humanitarian service to 6 kids before two were added two weeks ago. I am sure the mother had been told of me or perhaps had seen what I was doing and decided to bring her kids. When she asked me the charge, I said the same thing that she should bring whatever is in her heart. I didn't want to be partial as I gave them the chance to do what comes from their hearts and whatever they gave me, I would accept it with gladness knowing I was just doing my work for the glory of God and to help change the lives of these kids who do not know how to pronounce or spell words correctly.

Just last night, I was at my pastor's place charging my gadgets. The father of two of these kids came to visit and as they kept talking while I was focused on the TV, the man turned to me, genuinely appreciating me for my effort on his kids. He said what his elder son couldn't spell or pronounce before, he has been doing fine and that is all thanks to me. He was doing this in the presence of the pastor and his wife and they also testified to how I have been amazing while living with them in the compound.

I felt so proud of myself and was deeply grateful to God for helping me too. That encouragement lightened my mood and made me inspired to put in more effort on these kids before I leave because I only have a short time after the end of my service this week.

I am so happy for this and I have promised myself to continue making a long-lasting impact wherever I may find myself because it pays to do good. It pays to be committed to the service of humanity because people are watching and observing all you do. It just made me wonder what if I never made an attempt to help these kids? What if I just decided to stay on my own and never take a step to help humanity? What if I have been of a bad behaviour in my area? People are watching and every human being will reap what they sow.

When I informed my neighbours that I would be finishing my service soon, they were like, "We don't want you to leave. Please stay with us here". As short as that word is, it carried a heavy weight in my heart and I felt emotional about it. What you do. How you act. Ways you show yourself available around your vicinity will determine how well and how much would be missed and appreciated if you ever leave that area.

Lol, the title sounded like a scary American movie 😂

I am very such that those kids would not forget your impact in their lives.

Yea, people are truly watching us; you only get to know this when you get an opportunity to interact with some people.

How we live our lives truly matters. Once again, congratulations.

Yes, how we live our lives truly matters and we must be conscious every day to understand that we are always been noticed and observed by people. What we do will determine the outcome.

This is a wonderful testimony to the glory of God and this is what humanity stands for... impacting lives for the better.

I don't want to seem like a spoil sport but I couldn't help noticing that you said you didn't charge the parents for a fee rather you asked them to pay what is in their heart...hmm this is commendable but not advisable for some parents especially here in Lagos. Some parents can be cruel and when you say that you won't charge them a fee, then they would abuse it.

Congratulations in advance on your service completion. How time flies...

I still recall reading your post on the journey you took for this service commencement. God is good

You are right. Location matters when it comes to things like this. Some parents will definitely abuse the privilege when you give them the freewill to give what they feel like to give. Some aren't kind to compensate you big considering that teaching isn't a simple task.

Thank you so much for your wishes. I appreciate it.

Compensation is not a word in the dictionary of most parents in Lagos. They treat teachers like bottom feeders simply because they pay school fees.
