Life has taught me a lot of lessons in the past and it is something I want to work with to have a better year 2024 and life. I will be starting another journey of life in two days which is my birthday. I have decided to give up on one particular thing this year and beyond because it is something I wouldn't want to stop but continue in it. My future with it lies in the way I handle it and make sure to always set aside funds through savings and investment so I wouldn't lack when I need to do it.

One thing I want to give up is an "uncomfortable life". Yes, you read rightly — an uncomfortable life or lifestyle. Read on so you will understand me.

I and my siblings were brought up in a 2 storey building filled with lots of tenants and the life there was a rough one. In Nigeria, it is called "Face me, I slap you." Even though we were young then, I could still remember how life was. I knew if my parents could afford a home of their own or rent an apartment with us living in it, they would have given us the best life ever. The toilets and bathrooms were shared between tenants, and many times, some children contracted different diseases through it. The only people who didn't experience such a life were my elder sister and immediate younger sister. They both lived with our relatives who had good apartments mainly used by them alone. Every day, when we returned from school, we would go in search of where to buy water for use as we would carry big kegs and bowls on our heads. It wasn't easy but that was how we grew up until I gained admission into the college of education.

While doing my nce program, I rented a room with many tenants; there was no toilet, only a bathroom. When we want to defecate, we go through a process called 'shortput' whereby we find a secluded place, poo in nylon and throw it out into an uncompleted building facing my hostel. Many students lived in good self-contained apartments but because of lack of money and knowing my parents' conditions, I couldn't afford such a home.

I always wished for such a life where it is comfortable with running water inside while having a toilet, a bathroom and a kitchen all for yourself. It was something I had wanted for a long time but the resources to obtain it weren't available. I kept living the rough life while also coping and enduring, believing that someday life would be better for me. The same thing happened when I gained admission for my degree education. I got a place with lots of tenants, a low-life standard and not conducive at all for me. Still, there was no money to get a good apartment where I would be the only one using those facilities. This, I endured from the year 2019 to 2023. I pushed myself to complete my degree in that house while saving money for a good self-contained apartment. This was possible through Hive.

Whenever I travel home and lived a comfortable life, it was always hard to accept the fact that I would be returning to my low-life level while being uncomfortable with a lot of things, especially going in search of water everywhere. It was after the completion of my degree studies that I decided that no more living such a rascal life — a life that doesn't suit me, it's enough. My sisters also kept encouraging me and assuring me that they would do their best to make sure I don't live such a life again because, to them, I haven't tasted a good life living in a home that is more comfortable where you don't share things with anyone. They were right because I never had the opportunity right from the beginning.

Though I lived such a comfortable life at my aunt's place, I want something for myself and last year was the time I gave up such a lifestyle. This is the reason I made up my mind to look for a good apartment while serving as I want to begin the journey of living a good and comfortable lifestyle.

Whenever I visit my aunt, I discover that I gain more insight into what living a good life is and my mentality is that of a wealthy being and not picturing myself in a low-standard life when I was staying at my old building. The people in the compound too were not helping matters as they were of a low lifestyle because of the way they have seen life. Staying in a comfortable place gives you more comfort and the ability to think well while getting more ideas on how to live the best life.

I am still searching for a good apartment that will give me comfort and it is something I have been working on while also telling people to keep searching for a good place for me. Once I start living such a life, it will not only give me the comfort I desire, but it will help my mind to be focused on the positive side of life and believe in myself that I can do it instead of limiting myself like the mentality of a poor person who thinks living a good life isn't meant for them.

I know what I want and I won't be limiting myself to a low standard level anymore because I plan to keep saving ahead of the future so I will always be able to afford a good place to live in while also having in mind a home of my own later in the future.
