An Examination of Government Spending in Nigeria.

20230403_095758_0000.png

A beautiful week it is and I am super ready and prepared to see how it turns out in the end. A wonderful day to everyone on Hive and every member of the Hive Learners community.

I believe every citizen of Nigeria would agree with me that this country is great and many of us are proud to be its citizen, but some things should be and shouldn't be, especially with the system of government. When it comes to spending, there are factors to consider so that there wouldn't be a misappropriation of funds or inefficient spending.

Spending is very vital to every human being and it's important to know how to spend to be organized and efficient. One of the questions to ask ourselves when spending for daily, weekly, or monthly needs is: is what am buying or spending on worth it?

Spending unnecessarily or without a budget will lead to financial challenges which would make one go into debt. Nigerian is facing such a situation and it hurts me to see how this country goes into binge borrowing and still would spend on irrelevant things when there are other important ones to attend to.

Take, for instance, the educational sector, most especially the federal and public schools. There is not enough equipment to aid students learning in classrooms. Teachers aren't provided with amenities to help in giving the best teaching to students which ends up causing decadence in schools. There is no motivation and encouragement for teachers when they are not being paid salaries at the right time. That is why they are being owed for months when they need to survive too.

When I was still in school, it hurts me to see how lecture halls are lacking many things; roofs are spoilt which isn't convenient when the sun is out or when there is rain, it affected many of us because these are things lecturers used as an excuse to keep postponing lectures and still end up setting examination questions. Many lecturers would complain about not being paid and some who aren't nice or kind would vent their anger on us by not delivering lectures as expected. There was a lecturer who decided to leave the school because they were owing for months and they couldn't take care of their families.

This is what government needs to focus their spendings on. Fund schools and give students better education, because when things are going smoothly in the education sector, equipment is readily available for students to use in classrooms, it will boost students' achievement in school and even make teachers and lecturers happy always to be present every time.

Another thing they should spend on which they aren't doing well is employment. There are lots of people out there, especially graduates who haven't been employed because there aren't enough job opportunities out there, and this is also caused by the government's inability to provide opportunities with the money they keep borrowing and embezzling. Apart from people who should update their skills, and not complain about the government not giving them a job, I think the government should do what they are supposed to do by providing for entrepreneurs who are keen on growing their businesses.

There are a lot of youths involved in illegal activities because no employment for them, and if they are to trace its cause, the government won't be left out because they refused to spend on the employment sector, thereby sending out more opportunities for those who would be interested to work, get paid on time and live happily with themselves.

One of the things I think the government has spent on which they shouldn't because in the end, it makes us feel they shouldn't have done it in the first place is the issue of naira redesigning.

I still wonder why they did that and ended up destroying things that they had to go back to the usual way. The old naira notes they deprived us of spending is now what we are spending today due to their wrong decision and spending. They wasted money to redesign the new notes but they couldn't find better ways to do it which makes things worse for everyone when the issue of no cash went viral.

As things are getting worse with government indecision towards handling money, we all hope for a miracle to make the country better again.

Thanks for your time on my blog.

The government can reduce taxes and regulations on businesses, give entrepreneurs training and support, and enhance financing access even in the educational sector they could Invest in education to help perfect the workforce's skills and make them more competitive in the global economy but they won't because of their greediness and selfishness the love More of corruption than to create peace in there motherland

May God see us again. I'm @josedam

Seriously, things would have been more better if they put all these into consideration and let it benefit everyone but no, they are so greedy to even think of that. God will surely save us from corrupt leaders. Thanks for stopping by.

When graduates are finishing school for longer years and still wouldn't find better jobs to do. It's unfair from our leaders and they should do something.

: is what am buying or spending on worth it?

This is the right question to ask oneself. Many people engage in impulsive buying. They just want to buy anything that's appealing to their eyes. They would end up not using them and these things can become liabilities in the long run.

Governments improper allocation of funds is a very big issue. I don't know if you heard of the governorship candidate that said "he would create happy hour for the citizens and that every Friday, there would be enjoyment in the state". As if enjoyment is the main issue of the state. It's gets tiring sometimes and like you said, it would take a miracle for the change we need to occur

Which enjoyment when they should do what is right 😆 they are playing.

It's just so appalling to see their own children living good lives abroad or even somewhere in Nigeria and people like us, are not enjoying good opportunities. It's so bad.

😂😂. Every Friday, partying and jollification in the state 😂

They do these things and forget that it would still affect them in the long run.

Government can do many things if they want. But corrupted people are controlling the government which is very bad. Focusing on education system is inside for a nation and for the future development of a country.

You are right. They can do many things but there are the corrupt and selfish leaders hijacking those ideas.

One bad decision after the other.
One of the reasons why private universities are in vogue is because the federal government neglects the public universities and it's lecturers.

You are right. They could make things work for public schools too so that they can also be balanced with private schools.

About the New redesign Naira note, I don't think they made a good plan about it before they carry it, and they spent billions of Naira about the whole stuff, see now, they have approve the old note again, I'll just say they are confuse set of people. Some Nigerians use the opportunity to make things worse for individual When there was scarcity of money...

The whole system is not just working well, I could also relate to the issue of teachers, they collect the least salary, which should be so, and yet they'll not pay them on time... That's crazy, Nigeria government always channel their money to the things that are not necessary and the important ones are not attended to.

They are just confused set of people ruling us 😅😅 money that could have been used for something meaningful, they misuse it by spending on unnecessary things.

Our system has gone crazy because those handling it made it so because of their greediness.

A lot is happening in Nigeria, a beautiful nation filled with a lot of blessings yet suffering under the bondage of corruption.

Our educational system has fallen badly , back then, when you hear that a person is educated, you know what it means, but today, you would be amazed that someone has finished secondary school yet can not spell his/her name correctly. Who shall we blame, the student, the teacher or the government? Those of you in Nigeria know how teachers are suffering, there is no motivation just like you said, how can I be working and then not get paid? What will I eat? How will I feed my family? Come to talk about learning facilities, go to most schools and see, there are no books, no chairs, bad class rooms and so on. How do you expect learning to take place in such condition? Instead of fixing problems like this what most of those leaders are interested in, is making names for themselves by making their own projects

You see the issue of that Naira redesign is something that gets me confused whenever it's been brought up. I overheard someone saying that to make one note of the new currency cost a thousand naira plus, I don't know how true that statement is, but I was wondering how the government can make more of the money that can serve the entire nation if that statement is true. For God's sake the country is suffering with poverty, instead of using the little money we have to advance the government we are now using it to create what is not relevant at the time. The new naira note is a good project but I don't think now is the right time for it. Haba, there is time for everything na. Look how they frustrated people during that time of naira scarcity for nothing.

It is so sad that all these have befallen us, but I believe that the bad things happen for us to learn, better days will come.

The problem of our leaders is not knowing the right time to do things. Yes, the naira redesigning is a good thing but it was done at the wrong time. They wasted lots of money to do this thing and what happened later? It caused a big problem and frustration to everybody and in the end, they said we can continue using the old notes, what a confused system.... 😬

If only corruption can be wiped off, but I don't think it can because even if we have someone going against such, they might take his or her life in a second. It's just so bad.

Thanks for your comment, Emreal 😎

Hmmm... I think, the problem is really not knowing what to do at the right time.. that issue of new naira really caused a lot of problem to the people. I wonder what they gained from it, since after all the stress they made us go through, they could not provide enough to serve everyone, instead bring back the ones. This is worst than confusion honestly.. 🤣

You are always welcome ma 🥰❤️

Our education sector is struggling and that's why many of the people in power won't allow their children to study in Nigeria. We endure the hardship in schools and still end up facing the issue of unemployment.

It's demoralizing thinking about all of these things and with the situation of things, I don't see any redemption happening in the government.

Redesigning the naira note was a waste of resources and it broke a lot of people when we had to pay huge sum of money just to withdraw our hard earned money.

Don't mind them. Their children are abroad having the best education with the country's fund and aren't doing anything to help us. They are just being selfish to think of themselves and families alone, neglecting the care of the citizens.

The issue of spending huge amount of money to withdraw my own money was so frustrating to me that I felt like having a sort of power to hurt them. May God help us.

What a coincidence, the two things you talked about (education and naira redesign) are also what I thought of when I saw this topic 😆. Government told us they are redesigning the naira to curb inflation but surprising it ended up increasing it, it's a very bad move by that CBN governor

A very bad move. They became confused as to how to go about it, which made it looks as if they do not know what is the next thing. They just wasted money that could have gone into something better, like education, electricity or building more hospitals with good equipments.

I think the public education problem is felt in the same way in other countries, like my home country Brazil.
So sad.

This naira redesigning is indeed a serious issue that we just passed through and very unnecessary. I already knew it was going to end up that way because you don't expect us to get rid of our hard earned money by declaring it as a non legal tender. It was really funny and frightening at the same time but thank God we made it through alive.

Such an amount of money that got lavished for naira redesigning should have been given to the ASUU or build schools in rural areas which would have actually gone a long way rather than blue, green and red

Thank God we made it alive oo 😅😅
Exactly, they could have used the money to pay ASUU debts, build schools and provide equipments to aid in teaching and learning process but no, they are doing the right thing at the wrong time.

Miracle exists if we work toward it. Nigeria government and their kleptomaniac fingers and nonchalant attitude toward the aforementioned problems are what is draining the citizen profusely.

It is so unfortunate that the people we elect, consciously and unconsciously, into public offices or spaces are very self-centered. This is the reason we experience dilapidation is all aspects of our national life.
Until we wake to our responsibility of choosing our leaders wisely, we may not have a change in some of these life matters.

A lot of youths don't have jobs and that is why people like us are tying to come and make money online.
I just hope the government does something about it.

Handling money isn't as easy as most people think. It is not easy at all. In fact, I do wonder how this big organizations keep track of their cash. The truth is, when you haven't conquered your pocket as an individual, you can't conquer the budget of an entire country!

It still baffles me on the lack of worry they have for not spending at the right places. Things would've been better if more focus is put on education and creating more job opportunities.

The issue of naira redesigning was a way to loot more money from both allocations and electoral processes. What a shame.
