A proposal on a weekend.

My younger sister has been amazing with her gift of an event planner and she knows how to make plans look glorious and fun-filled. Event planning is one of her side hustles and a mouth-watering source of income aside from being an engineer in a company in the South-South of Nigeria (Portharchourt). She has never disappointed her client and she delivers greatly which makes her customers excited and love to call her for any social event that may happen.

One of the events she got last week was a proposal. The guy is her friend and he intended to propose to his girlfriend in a romantic way. This is always the best moment for any lady who is in a relationship with a guy and at this stage, it means the guy is ready to accommodate her, make her his forever wife and the mother of his children. It's always a joyous time for both partners as they are already moving onto the next stage in their relationship and it wouldn't be a boyfriend and girlfriend thing anymore but would-be husband and wife.

I love the ambience, so cool and romantic. The decoration was done with different colours; white, red, gold and yellow. The colour red is always associated with the heart which is the centre of love and passion. This means that the guy has desired to marry the lady and had a passion for her. Same with the lady. When she agrees and says "Yes", she feels the same way too.

The white colour signifies a pure love that can never be destroyed. When two people have come together to make their desires known, it means such love has been made pure and there is nothing destroying it. They are ready to stand together and no matter what happens, they are there to support each other till the end.

Gold is the colour of wealth and luxury. It also goes along with the idea of love. The gold colour in love symbolises generosity, compassion, sharing of wisdom and knowledge with one another. With this in a relationship, both partners have come together to share their knowledge with each other, being able to practice giving, love and compassion with one another.

Yellow colour is often associated with happiness, sunshine and positive energy. Also, it symbolises friendships and a new beginning. When two people have come together to agree in marrying each other, they have agreed to be friends together, stay happy always and with positive energy begin a new start in their lives. I believe when both partners follow the colours accordingly and understand their meanings, they would be ready to stay committed to one another.

This has always been my dream that my man would propose to me with the question, "Will you marry me?". In most cases, the lady might not be expecting it as it would be done surprisingly and in other cases, she might be expecting it especially when she has always waited or anticipated it because she feels the relationship has gone far for the guy to make the move.

Proposing to a girl means both of you have come to an agreement to get married and for this to happen, a relationship would have gone through thorough studying of both partners, having the understanding of what marriage entails and realising how much of a sacrifice it would be for two different people coming together to start living under the same roof. What most people do not understand is that marriage entails commitment, but most partners take their gaze away from the principle and just want to follow the trend of "my friend has proposed to his girlfriend, she said yes, etc" and because of this, they also want to follow suit without thinking if they are ready or not.

I have heard of where the girl had been proposed to and on their wedding day, she was caught in bed with her ex-boyfriend and that was the end of it. There are also cases of two people who got married and not long, there was an issue and that was the end of their marriage. Marriage entails understanding and commitment and if you aren't ready to embrace these prerequisites, then marriage isn't for you. It is better to wait longer than rush into it and become a punching bag or object of ridicule by everyone around when things are going worse.

Another thing I would like to say is that before two people get to this stage, they need to be sure they are okay physically, medically, emotionally, spiritually and financially. Jumping into marriage without the readiness of these five ingredients could be disastrous in the end. Proposing is a good thing but it should be done in a wise way and not following trends or being influenced by external factors.
