Hola a todos mis amigos de esta hermosa comunidad, espero que se encuentren bien. Como bien había prometido, esta es la segunda y última parte de una semana llena de emociones encontradas, retos y crecimiento profesional. La semana pasada el coro de la Universidad de Pinar del RÍo por motivo de la semana de la internacionalización estuvo compartiendo alrededor de 7 días con un grupo representativo de la universidad de Illinois. En dicha semana el evento principal era dar un show en donde se mostrara la verdadera naturaleza del ser humano y la inexistencia de límites donde hay amor. Además de esto, esta experiencia sirvió como base para la escritura de dos libros y como resultado de ello se recogieron firmas, frases y una palabra que resumieran nuestra experiencia juntos.

El miércoles continuamos con el cronograma previsto en donde la sesión de la mañana se tomó para dar recorridos por varios ranchos y centros que explicaran todo lo referente a las raíces africanas en nuestro país. Fue una visita enriquecedora la cual trascendió entre los estudiantes por su novedad e impacto. Después de este amplio recorrido fuimos a almorzar para cargar energías dado que en la tarde teníamos ensayo en el teatro previsto para hacer el gran show. Llegamos cerca de las 4:00 pm al teatro y comenzamos el ensayo, hicimos par de ajustes y planeamos la gran entrada. En total eran 5 canciones a cantar más dos números de baile y un discurso para honrar los años de relación entre ambas universidades.

Y de repente, el gran día llegó, a pesar de haber estado hasta tarde por la ciudad nos levantamos bien tempranos todos y se pudo ensayar los aspectos generales antes del show. Lo peor eran los reflectores y la luz del proyector, yo estaba situada en el mismo medio del escenario y el impacto de ambos era directo en mí. Fue todo un reto dado que soy epiléptica y eso me activa las crisis de epilepsia, mas saqué valentía y aguante hasta el final del espectáculo. Al terminar el show, la alegría desbordaba en el escenario a tal punto que todos nos abrazamos y bailamos al ritmo de nuestra música cubana. Pasamos alrededor de media hora tirándonos fotos y compartiendo en el escenario y luego nos dirigimos al hotel. En el hotel Pinar del Río nos prepararon una gala de despedida en donde nadie estuvo sentado, dado que todos, cubanos y americanos, no parábamos de bailar. El respeto, la alegría y la amistad fueron protagonistas del bello espectáculo. Al finalizar nos agarró la nostalgia pero aún así seguimos sonriendo todos. El viernes hicieron un acto donde nuestros amigos compartieron sus vivencias aquí y nos mostraron su colegio a través de presentaciones. Al terminar el intercambio nos abrazamos todos y dejamos que la nostalgia nos venciera, lloramos, reímos y prometimos volver a vernos y mantener el contacto. Ese mismo día partieron hacia La Habana y el domingo llegaron al campus.

Hoy por hoy, mantenemos el contacto y compartimos lo que hacemos en tiempo real. Esta experiencia fue una prueba fehaciente de que la esperanza y las personas puras de corazón todavía existen, la música une, mas la amistad y sensibilidad nos volvió hermanos.

Hello to all my friends of this beautiful community, I hope you are well. As promised, this is the second and last part of a week full of mixed emotions, challenges and professional growth. Last week the choir of the University of Pinar del RÍo on the occasion of the internationalization week was sharing about 7 days with a representative group of the University of Illinois. In this week the main event was to give a show where the true nature of the human being and the non-existence of limits where there is love. In addition to this, this experience served as the basis for the writing of two books and as a result of this we collected signatures, phrases and a word that summarized our experience together.

On Wednesday we continued with the planned schedule where the morning session was taken to give tours of several ranches and centers that explained everything related to African roots in our country. It was an enriching visit which transcended among the students for its novelty and impact. After this extensive tour we went to lunch to recharge our batteries because in the afternoon we had a rehearsal at the theater planned for the big show. We arrived around 4:00 pm at the theater and started the rehearsal, made a couple of adjustments and planned the grand entrance. In total there were 5 songs to sing plus two dance numbers and a speech to honor the years of relationship between both universities.

And suddenly, the big day came, despite having been late in the city we all got up early and could rehearse the general aspects before the show. The worst thing was the spotlights and the projector light, I was located in the very middle of the stage and the impact of both was directly on me. It was quite a challenge since I am an epileptic and that triggers my epileptic seizures, but I was brave enough to hold on until the end of the show. At the end of the show, the joy overflowed on stage to such an extent that we all hugged and danced to the rhythm of our Cuban music. We spent about half an hour taking pictures and sharing on stage and then we headed to the hotel. At the Pinar del Rio hotel they prepared a farewell gala where no one was seated, since all of us, Cubans and Americans, did not stop dancing. Respect, joy and friendship were the protagonists of the beautiful show. At the end of the show we were all nostalgic but we were still smiling. On Friday they did an act where our friends shared their experiences here and showed us their school through presentations. At the end of the exchange we all hugged each other and let the nostalgia overcome us, we cried, laughed and promised to meet again and keep in touch. That same day they left for Havana and on Sunday they arrived on campus.

Today, we keep in touch and share what we do in real time. This experience was proof that hope and pure-hearted people still exist, music unites, but friendship and sensitivity made us brothers.
