Navigating a transportation nightmare

As we all know, we live in a country where people take advantage of every little thing that happens in the country. The truth is that where I stay, transportation is very bad over here. I am not saying this to tarnish the area's image, but the truth must be told anyway.

Aside from the fact that fuel is expensive now, the traffic in my area is nothing to write home about, and that happens because of the bad roads.

If anyone has read some of my articles, you must have seen how I always complain about how bad my area was, and still nothing has changed. I am sure most people would say, Can't you leave the area for a better place? Well, I can leave, but paying another house rent with agreement and commission would definitely be a waste of money based on how costly it is to get an apartment now, and more so, I don't know what kind of problems they are facing in the new area as well, and that is why I and my husband find it difficult to just move out of the area.

Besides, it is closer to my shop, and I am used to the area already, so it wouldn't be easy for me or my husband to just pack away from the area. More so, his business is here, and his customers are as well, so going to another area is like starting all over again, which might be bad for our businesses.

Now let's talk about the public transportation here in my area. The filling station is not close to this area, and the only two filling stations that manage to open around don't have fuel always, so people don't have a choice but to go outside the area to get fuel, which makes public transportation hard for people living around here.

Another problem that makes public transportation hard over here is bad roads. People take advantage of every little chance they get over here, and that is why every time something happens, things would get expensive immediately.

Over here, the transportation fee is higher than in every other place. If someone is coming from outside to my area, they spend less money, but if we that live around are going outside, we spend much more, all because of the bad roads.

Most bike riders know we don't have a choice since we can't trek to where we are going and no tricycle or bus carries passengers, so we are left with no choice but to take bikes, which are more expensive. And if you price the transport fee, they will tell you the road is bad and fuel is expensive.

Yesterday, I was in the church, and someone called that she wanted to do her hair, so I left the church when I got to where I would take my bike. Everywhere was quiet, as if nobody lived in the area.

Luckily for me, one bike was coming from outside, and I immediately called him. he told me to go back home because I wouldn't see any bikes that day. That was strange because people came from far places to my church, but after standing for about 20 minutes, I got tired and went back to church.

After service, I heard from different people how much they spent coming down to church yesterday, and to top it all, our road is bad, which would serve as a good excuse to charge people more.

It is not like that in my sister's area because they have good roads and there are tricycles and buses over there, which makes the transportation fee less, so once there is a good road, there will be more transportation, which might reduce the high cost of transportation.

In a nutshell, what I think is the solution to the high cost of transportation over here is a good road; once we have that, there will be buses that can carry plenty of people at once with less money and tricycles as well, unlike bikes that take just one person and charge more.

Everything is just too expensive these days, and fuel is the main reason why. bad roads are not helping the matter either.

Majority of places in Nigeria have bad roads especially developing communities. The most annoying part of it is the way commuters would take advantage of the impediment for more profit.

It is well with us in this country, the only thing that concerns them is the money they want to embezzle

The problem in our country is just too numerous, it only God that will help us. All what the people in government know is how to embezzle our money

What area is this if you don't mind? It is not as if my area is better but not having bykes to move round at will, people travelling far to attend church when there churches everywhere and the only filling station not having fuel always made me ask. All these will make living there so tiring and stressful. If you are doing good business there, you may need to continue to endure. Well done Sis

One of the challenges I am facing in my area is the price of fuel. It has really skyrocketed over the past months. 10 years ago, the price of fuel from my dad’s shop to my house was #60, now it is 300/400.
