Good music ended in the past
No doubt about the fact that the world has changed a lot and the things we see and do as well are changing along with it.
Gone are those days when we listened to reasonable songs and old-school hip-hop. I remember when I was in secondary school, the kind of songs we listened to at that time had become old school compared to what we listen to now.
To me, the songs we listen to then have more meaning than the ones we hear nowadays. The reason why I said so is because then, artist want to pass a message through their music, and when you hear the lyrics you will understand the message clearly.
For instance, 9ice and ASA songs if you listen to them very well, you will realize they are not just singing for people to dance, they are passing a very good message. African china is not excluded and his lyrics always draw me to his songs.
Not like nowadays, where once you have a nice beat you are good to go, someone like Portable is calling himself a musician when there is nothing to learn from his music, he sang one song like that titled "zazo" the very first time I listen to the song I was disappointed because it was pointless.
Don't get me wrong, what some people like might not be what I like because before I like any song there must be a message in it. There are still some songs that have meaning these days even though the world has changed, the artists still keep the lyrics good for people to learn.
Now my favorite artist is "Tatiana" because her song is inspiring not that I am just having fun with it. Even the so-called ASA has turned to old school musician because people no longer listen to her music like in those days, they only want to dance and have fun.
The world is not the same we get it, but what I believe is that as the music is changing, the message shouldn't change. I have this Yoruba article "Ebenezer Obey" song titled "Olowo layemo" Whenever I listen to that song I always remember my dad and his friends. When he was gone, all of them forgot about his children even his so-called family took everything from us and my mom away. Whenever I played the music, people always looked at me as if I was old school.
I am not old, I just don't like listening to anyhow music, music that can't inspire me or make me feel better after hearing it. I still have some old-school hip-hop on my playlist because they are far better than the music we listen to nowadays.
So to answer the question, I will choose the music we listened to before over the one we are listening to nowadays because today's music is just for fun nothing to learn from it.
A lot has changed truly but it's not as bad as we think, These guys are going through a lot to get their music outside and applauding them even just in a little way isn't bad.
There are some whose music is annoying really but their blunders aren't enough to judge others. Music back then was different, today's music isn't bad as well and they can always do better.
Yeah you are actually right about that not all the music are bad but most of them are because the good ones are not getting promoted but the bad ones are
@george-dee. I think those good ones were acknowledged in the article. Majority of the people producing songs now do it to cult the younger population who fraternizes sexualization, drugs and other ills of the society. It is obvious. They need to change!!!
You've spoken well and I can't agree more that truly good music isn't here anymore.
It's disheartening to listen to rubbish being sang in present day.
As in some are nothing to write home about and yet people find it fun I wonder what some people think when they listen to the lyrics
Old musicians like Fela still hold a lot of relevance today because of the kind of music they do.
but I think one advantage about today's music is that there's almost music for every mood, so you just have to decide what you feel like listening to.
Hmmmm I don't think there are songs for mood like you said though not all of them are bad but most of today's music doesn't really pass massage to people but it entertained anyway

Rightly said, the music in the past had meaningful message to pass to the public but it's disheartening that music of today only has the beat and nothing to write home about. Musicians in the old were more concerned in passing a message, but that of today only want to see themselves at the top and the message is no concern to them. I hope old school music would be appreciated once again to help our youth learn
Like seriously before artist are more concerned about the message in the songs but not anymore all what some of them want is to be at the Grammy awards and pull crowd
But still life goes on anyway the world is changing and everything is following it including morals as well
Sometimes I wonder if things will get better again
Hmmm 🤔 I wonder too o
There are some music nowadays doesn't have any meaning at all, I wonder who are those listening to the music. While we have good and pleasant music to hear when listening to them you will feel the vibe.
Yeah some are still good though
But most are not reasonable at all because they want to move to the direction of where life is going they forgot that people must learn from what they are singing
I understand you dear
As far as music is concerned, I am attached with the past. 90% of songs in my player are songs of decades ago. Bob Marley, Fela, Dube and many others. They are filled with relatable messages.
Am telling you not like most of the songs out there now that all that we hear is beat 🪘
In terms of lyrics, nothing can beat the so-called old school. They pass messages and words of wisdom unlike today where everyone wants to release a song because of the money
Yeah you are right about that the old school hip-hop cares about the lyrics but in today's music all they want is to make money from the song whether it has meaning or not
Exactly
No matter how old those music are they still pass the message across, I wish the today àrtist can use them as their example.
Old music are good, I really missed them too. Till date I still have Asa's songs on my phone, that lady is just too good. Nowadays, we only have good sounds but the songs have no meaning. What scars me most is the bad influence it inflicts on our youths but gospel music is still doing well in our days, I don't find anything wrong with it yet.
