We tried but we failed

Earlier last month, I had made a post here talking about a friend of mine who was somewhat addicted to sportbetting and didn't really have a job. So in order for us (his friends) to help him out, we had come up with the idea of helping him with some money for a month but had given him some conditions. The money were only going to be used for food, no sportbetting for the next one month and he was going to get a job.

Well it's been about a month and some days since I made that post so I've decided to make kinda like an update or a report on how the last month went. If I'm being honest and want to keep it real short and simple, then the only thing I would say was that the operation was a failed one, and when I say it failed, I met in every aspect.

We had agreed to a certain amount that would be given to this friend of ours every week but sadly, after the second week, the two other friends found themselves in some tight corners and couldn't afford any money to spare, and it carried on like for the rest of the month. Me on the other hand had tried for three weeks but the fourth week proved to be a difficult one and sadly I couldn't give him the complete amount that week... That was failure number one.

One of the conditions was for him to get a job and he had tried searching for jobs. I had even told some of my other friends about it, just in case they see any vacancies around, so that they could inform me. They did see, but unfortunately these jobs were located far away and by the time we did our calculations and removed the expenses from the salary he would be paid, we realized he would be working for almost nothing, so he never went for any of those jobs either... That was failure number two.

And other agreement had been that he would not engage in any sportbetting of any kind throughout the four weeks we would be helping him, and truth be told, he had kept to his own side of the bargain and had stayed away from it for a month but just as the month was over, he had gone right back to it. Unfortunately I couldn't do anything to stop him because an agreement was an agreement and he had kept to his own side of the agreement, although I would admit I was a bit disappointed because the only reason we had included that rule was because we were hoping that maybe a month away from sportbetting would do some wonders and maybe make him stop it entirely. Anyways, that was failure number three.

And now, everything is back to how it was in the beginning, him being broke, jobless and an addict to sportbetting. We all tried to help, but it seemed like every positive step we took forward was met with something negative that took us two steps backwards.

We tried but we failed.

It is true that we try hard but do not succeed, so we should not worry if this happens to us, then we will never succeed in life, that is why it is said that It's good to keep up the good work.

Taking the financial responsibility of anyone is not easy. Again your friend proved it again that coming out from gamble addiction is not so easy and I believe that you should leave him on his fate because it's a thing you can't change if he is not ready to change himself.

Sadly that seems like the only thing I can do at this point. Although I want the best for him, he has to want the best for himself too for it to work out.

That sucks that there are people that don't want to help themselves when we are being helpful to them.

You and your friends already did what you could for him hopefully he will wake up with his addiction.

Hopefully he wakes up soon enough and not when a lot of damage has been done already.
