The First Time

Earlier today, I decided to man up and get my lazy self into the kitchen. The plan today has been to cook a very popular Nigerian soup known as Ogbonor Soup and I think I did just that. It's just one of those soup that I definitely won't be eating twice because it might end up being too poisonous for me due to how badly it came out, thankfully I only cooked a little of it.

All in all, I'm proud of myself for how far I've come because there was a time when I couldn't even do nothing but luckily for me, I had a mother who made sure I cooked at least once a week even though she knew that there was a huge chance of me poisoning everyone with my concoction.

I remember the first time I cooked a meal for the family. Dad and mom had both gone to work and so had my elder brothers, so it was just me at home because my kid bro was also in school. Mom had given me instructions on what to do while I was sleeping and though I heard some of the things she had said that morning, the rest just got lost. But if there's one thing I knew for sure that she didn't teach me that morning, it was the amount of salt I was suppose to put in the food.

I remember going on YouTube later that morning and following every step I saw there. Unfortunately, Nigerian youtubers don't add one teaspoon of salt like other countries youtuber do, they just dip their hands in the salt and go with the flow. So I did just that, I dipped my hand in the pack of salt and went with the flow.

Unfortunately, my flow must have been too much for them to handle because they ended up saying the food was salty. My dad was the first person to come back that day and I remember him saying to me that it's better to add little salt than to add more salt, because if the food isn't tasty and requires more salt, they can do it themselves but when the salt is excess, then nothing can be done and the food is ruined.

Anyways, that was my first try and I think its safe to say that I've been doing great ever since. I still can't eat the food I cook but I try, so that's progress.
