Serving My Country

If you've heard Nigerians who have left Nigeria talk about the country, they might say some really nasty and scary things about the place that will make you change your mind about visiting if you had any plans to in the first place. But truth be told, the whole of the country isn't bad. There are places so good that if you were blind folded and taken to those places and the blindfold is taken off and you're asked to name what country you're in, you probably will end up naming one of those European countries that you feel will look that way.

So some part of the country is really good, just not good enough for me to want to lay my life for it. I've thought about joining one of the armed forces in the past but it was never something serious, either it was just a random playful thought or something had happened earlier that triggered that thought.

A good example of one of those things that usually influences my thought to want to join one of the armed forces is when I get bullied by a police man or see people get bullied and extorted by them, then I start to wish that I was a high ranking officer who can punish the officer and make sure he regrets the day he was born.

The one person in my family though who wanted to join the army and was serious about it (I think) was my elder brother. He made enquiries on what form to buy and how to sign up but my dad had perished that thought. The man wasn't ready to see any of his son kick the bucket yet because he knew there was a high possibility of that happening seeing how the country is currently being attacked by terrorist.

Anyway, if I'm to join a force for some crazy reasons or whatever, it probably would be either the airforce or the navy and this is because these are the two forces that civilians on their day to day activities rarely meet, hence making them have more respect for them. The Army is okay but if there's one thing I'm never doing, it's joining the police force. A lot of those guys have brought shame to that uniform that if not for Ak47 they carry around all the time with some dagger attached to it like a criminal, they won't be respected or feared.

As a matter of fact, I probably would have fought a lot of policemen by now if it weren't for that reason and I'm a very gentle person. When it comes to what I might be bringing into the force, I really don't know. I'm just going to try to keep my head low and probably outlive every one of them because like I said, I have no plans on dying for this country.
