It's my Birthday

Two nights ago, I was having a conversation with a friend when all of a sudden he mentioned that the year was coming to an end and he had nothing to show for it. Strangely, instead of me to agree with him like I normally would, I had reminded him that being alive and healthy was more than enough achievement for the year.

I've come to realize that people only focus on the financial aspect of their lives when counting their success, which to me isn't right because yes, your finances matters, but that shouldn't be the only thing you look at. You should look at yourself and how far you've grown in different aspects of your life.

Unlike my friend, the year hasn't been a waste to me at all. One of the things I'm very proud of this year is my writing and how consistent I've been with it since this year. Despite the many distractions, sickness, moodswings, depression and whatnot, I always found a way to make sure that I did that one thing I was suppose to do, I made sure I wrote something.

Another aspect of my life that I'm really proud of is how much I've grown as a person. Some of the principles I had placed in my life and how they had helped shape me into the man that I am today. I know how many times people have walked up to me to appreciate me for my honesty in dealing with certain things and that they appreciate how straightforward I am.

Although all of that has been as a result of my upbringing and the parents I had growing up, if we're being honest, that is me trying to be humble because there are a lot of things here in school capable of changing a man and making him forget everything he was ever taught at home. It takes one some internal strength to remain honest even after experiencing all of that.

At the end of the day, I just want to say thank you to God almighty, thank you to my family, thank you to all of you who have contributed directly or indirectly to my life in one way or the other, because whether you guys know it or not, all of that is what came together to make me the man that I am today and I'm super grateful for it.

Of course I have my flaws like any other human being out there and I hope it doesn't tear us apart, instead I would appreciate it if it's brought to my attention so that I can work on it and become the best version of myself.

Anyways, I guess I say all of that to say Happy birthday to me.
