Injury Time
The end of the year is getting really close and as usual, I'm starting to hear people complain about how they haven't gotten to where they want to be at yet, you hear them talk almost like there isn't going to be another year after this one.
I was actually talking to a friend of mine who actually is the inspiration behind today's post and he was lamenting about how it will be December soon and he has nothing to show for it. Him making that statement wasn't exactly a surprise to me because over here in Nigeria, the month of December is the month where people get to measure their success, where they get to come home and look back at the entire year to see how well they've done for themselves.
So people tend to work the hardest whenever the month of December is starting to get close so that they could have something to brag about back at home. And as far as I know it, it's kinda like a good thing because it gets you to want to work hard more..and anything that encourages you to work harder should be welcomed, right?
Although if there's one thing I do not like about this whole December extra hustle thingy, it's the mentality behind it. Why wait until the end of the year to have a purpose to want to do better?
Like, I understand the whole December thing, but why not start early, give yourself enough time to really do what you're suppose to do and be what you're suppose to be. Also, it's absolutely fine if you don't make it at the end of the year, because there will always be a next year.
I say that because a lot of people take that deadline thing too seriously to the extent where they end up going to do something they shouldn't have done, something they will end up regretting, just so that they could look and be seen as successful during these times.
It's sad and they need to learn when to call it quit with this little December game of theirs because some of you out there will be doing something really stupid just because you all think this is injury time and you have to look for ways to score the winning goal.
I think it has become our nature to wait for the ending time and that triggers us like we do assignments on the last day before the assignment submission. I also think we need to give some more time to ourselves to reach the position where we want to reach.
I understand wanting to wait till the last minute for stuff like chores or an assignment.. But we shouldn't have that same mentality when it comes to success in life, should we?
I think we should be prepared early and it can increase our chances of success in life.
