Another Near Death Experience

Today was one of those days something really dangerous happened, but just because we were lucky enough to escape any real damages from happening to anyone, we all played it like it was nothing.

Recently at my hostel, we've been having these electrical issues where the light at some parts of the hostel would trip off due to two wires disconnecting, and someone would have to go carefully place those wires in a way where they both connect back. This is a temporary solution until we have enough money to fix the whole thing.

Anyways, whenever this happens, we have a guy, an occupant of the hostel that we call to help us get it fixed. We call him an Engineer even though he's not really one, he just has some basic knowledge about these stuff.

Well, I had gone to ask him for help today to fix the light as usual, and for some reason, he didn't have his pliers and gloves with him at home. So he had come up with this "brilliant" idea to use a knife in place of the plier, and a nylon for gloves.

By the time he got to working on these stuff, the light had gone off everywhere so it was safe for him to touch the wires because there wasn't any power and he did. He held on to the wires because he needed to hold it firmly, in order to be able to cut it properly with the knife.

After he was done cutting one end of the first wire, it was time for him to cut the other end, but for some reason he had decided to take a little break and was having a conversation with me instead, when all of a sudden, the power was restored. That break that he had taken had saved his life.

By the time he got down from there, one could clearly see it on our faces how scared we were because we knew this dude just had a little dance with death and came out of it alive. It was a very risky thing to do, one that probably could have ended his life this morning and also placed me behind bars, but funny enough, we laughed about it five minutes later.

But in my mind, I knew the only reason we thought any of it was funny was because the bad stuff didn't happen.. If it had, I wouldn't be making this post tonight.

It was a serious thing and thank god that he took break otherwise he may lose his life. I think it's also a lesson not to take any kind of risk when it comes to electricity.

It was a very stupid risk.. And I'm surprised I even let it happen.

Trust me when I say that now that I do think about it, I'm angry at myself for letting him take sure a risk because that whole situation could have ended very very badly.

I just Thank God it didn't.
