Patience is a virtue in Hunting games | theHunter: Call of the Wild

Hello, gamers. Welcome back to my blog.

I am back in Silver Ridge Peaks to hunt Pronghorns and Plains Bisons. These two are in abundance here and you will find them near the south-eastern part of the reserve, especially in the open meadows and near water bodies.

When I logged in it was already nighttime and I didn't have the DLC which gives you access to equipment like night vision Binoculars and sights so I always refrain from hunting in the dark. I might buy the DLC later as I want to experience hunting in the night as well and some species, especially the predators are more active during the night time. Anyways, I went to sleep to skip time.

Each outpost has a bed where you can rest and set any wakeup time, it costs a mere 250 bucks to do that so I set the wakeup time at around 9 am.

It was a beautiful morning, the sky was clear with the sun shining brightly. A good day for hunting.

Just close to my outpost, I saw a carcass and upon examining it I found out this was a feed zone for the Black bear. Looks like I just missed the Bear as I heard a faint Bear call coming from a far place.

I was close to a small lake and it already had a hunting stand setup. These stands allow a hunter to have a good 360-degree view of the area and also help you stay concealed from the animals. Also, if you hunt from inside those structures there will be significantly less hunting pressure on this area. So, naturally, I went into it and tried to look for signs of life.

On the western side of the meadow, I found a lone Merriam Turkey feeding on the ground. It was a rare site to see them alone, generally, they tend to stay in groups of 3-5. Anyways, before aiming, I tried to look around and see if I have better options to hunt.

On the north-eastern side of the tower, I located a feed zone of Pronghorns. At least, three of them were grazing and almost ready to leave the place as their feed time just ended.

Luckily, both of these (Pronghorn and Turkey) were way apart so I can take down one with very less chance of spooking the other. I went for the turkey first, although it was a long shot but the Turkey was completely still so it was an easier shot for me. Later, I went and harvest the kill.

I changed my focus on the Pronghorn's group and tried to aim at the male. This was not easy as it was facing away from me and I only had the back side to shoot and that had no vital organs to aim at. I shot at it regardless and just as I feared, I missed every organ and only penetrated the flesh.

All the others got spooked and I took another shot at a female who was stunned and froze for a couple of seconds, this gave me ample time to get a nice lung shot.

I had to track down both of those, the female got hit badly and dropped dead just shortly after. It was a double lung shot so that was not a long affair.

The male got very far and I had to follow the blood trails to harvest it. After tracking for around 700 meters I was finally able to retrieve the carcass. Upon harvesting, I saw that I missed every organ be that vital or non-vital, and my bullet only managed to get the flesh which caused slow bleeding and the animal to bleed to death. That was not an ethical kill so I lost the harvest check and got only the bronze medal instead of the silver one.

After the long track, I reached a place with an open field. On the southern side of that field was another group of Pronghorn calmly minding their business. I got closer to about 150 meters. Only one of them was the male and they are slightly bigger than females and get me better cash rewards and XP. So, I went for him.

This time I had a side-on angle and the lungs are a good place to aim at. I wanted to get the heart but missed it by a few inches in the end. You can see the trajectory of the bullet in this harvest screen below. Just missed the heart. These pronghorns are not the bulkiest of animals so I get good penetration and my bullet managed to pierce through both the lungs easily.

I looked at the map and saw a big lake and no water bodies were close to this... so it had a good chance of attracting some big animals. The time was also right, a bright afternoon and Bisons would love to spend time near a water body. So, I went towards the place.

I saw from a distance, at least 3 separate Bison's herds drinking water. The closest one to me was alert and sensed my presence because of the wind flowing towards them.

I shot one of the bigger ones and they all got spooked and ran towards the thick forest close to the lake. I tracked them down and found my kill.

A good lung shot will eventually kill them. My 7mm magnum rifle punches enough power to take down these beasts. Sometimes they charge at you but most of the time they will try to run away from the danger. Only when they are trapped they will try to charge at you and you better stay away from them else you will be history.

I saw movement on the other side of the lake as well. Bison were not staying at the lake for longer now... the entire herd is running away from the danger. Out of a large group, I quickly searched for the biggest one. There was this Bison that weighed more than 900 Kg so I took two shots both aiming at the lungs.

These Bison have very large pair of lungs and they are difficult to miss. Both of my shots hit the lungs.

I harvest it and it gave me an impressive gold trophy with a rating of 162 which is a rare find. I know there are diamond-level animals as well but they are very very rare to find.

This was a good end of the session. Hunting a big predator gives you a lot of XP and cash rewards. Even those smaller Pronghorns gave me good XP and I am trying to farm as much XP as I can so I can unlock new abilities and skills. That should make my life easier in the game.

Thanks for reading...

Until next time...

This game is one of the few "simulators" that I find really fun, I guess it's because it involves shooting and not just sweeping the floor or cleaning a car haha. I'm surprised at how detailed it is and how realistic it tries to be with sounds, night and other hunting stuff, it made me want to try it, I see that graphically it looks good so I hope my PC can handle it 😅.

It should run in slower pc as well.I don't have the best specs but it runs smoothly in mine.

You can also play multiplayer as well.

I have followed part of your tour of this game, stalking and hunting become entertaining.
But a doubt that I have left, does the game animations have a bullet animation as in the sniper games?
It occurred to me that if I should have shot kinematics like sniper elite, but I really only know the game for its publication.
