My BATTLE MAGE SECRET Weekly Challenge! Unprotected
Hello there, this is my entry to the latest "Battle Mage Secret Weekly Challenge!". If you want to participate or learn more about the challenge, click here. This week we have to formulate a strategy with the Unprotected ruleset.
RULESET: Unprotected
With the Unprotected ruleset in action, all Armor is removed from the units and they can't even gain the armour during the battle.
The 'Unprotected' ruleset is very easy to understand as all units will lose their Armor/shield and all the abilities like 'protect' which gives extra armour just useless during the battle as units can't even gain armour after during the entire battle. So units which depend less on their Armour and have good health to compensate for it can be used during this ruleset with no disadvantages.
Let's see how this ruleset affects my lineup and how I strategies for the following battle.
My Lineup
This is my lineup for the battle
This was a 24-mana cap battle and only had the 'Unprotected' ruleset which as we already saw removes all the armour from the units.
Only Earth and Death elements were active during this battle. Well, I went with Earth and used the Mylor Crowling summoner which gives all the friendly monster 'thorns' ability which is very effective during this ruleset against melee attackers.
I placed Unicorn Mustang in the first position as my tank. It costs 8 mana but comes with a lot of health and has good attacking strength, dealing 3 melee attack damage with good speed. I used it because it doesn't come with any armour and has more focus on health. So it will help me in this ruleset. Also, its 'Void' ability is effective against mages. All these factors make it a perfect tank for this battle.
Next in my lineup was Fungus Fiend who was just a zero mana unit capable of dealing 1 melee attack damage and has 2 health. I didn't expect much from it and I knew it wouldn't attack from this position but its main task was just to shield the next unit in my lineup from attacks and soak up a few attacks.
Epona was placed in the third position in my lineup. It only costs 1 mana and is a non-attacking unit but has a 'strengthen' ability which increases the hp of all friendly units by 1 and that's very crucial in small and mid-range mana cap battles.
Next in my lineup was Goblin Thief which cost just 4 mana dealt 2 melee attack damage with decent speed and had 4 hp of its own. The best part about it is its 'sneak' ability so it can sneakily attack at units placed at the end of the lineup and surprise my opponents.
Gobln Psychic was the only mage in my lineup and I used it mainly to support my tank by providing heal and making it last even longer. It dealt 2 magic attack damage which is a good bonus and has decent health too.
Last but not least was Halfing Alchemist who costs only 2 mana and deals 1 ranged attack damage. But the best part about it is its 'halving' ability that reduces the attack of its target by half. This is very effective against strong tanks dealing lots of damage.
Now that my lineup is set let's talk about my strategy for this game.
My Strategy
The 'Unprotected' ruleset is a straightforward one and easy to understand. I used a strong tank as my first unit which has a lot of health and doesn't come with armour.
I supported it with a 'tank heal' ability monster so it can last even longer while the rest of the units at the back can take down the enemy units.
Having the 'Halfing Alchemist' was a crucial part of my strategy too which reduces the attacking strength of my opponent.
Also, the Mylor Crowling summoner played a huge role by giving each of my units the 'thorns' ability, this ability is very effective in this ruleset.
I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube. Battle Link
My opponent went with an interesting strategy, they used the Obsidian as their summoner and didn't use a lot of mages which was a little strange. They used the Mycelic Infantry as their tank and supported it with tank heal ability too which is a somewhat similar strategy to mine.
Round 1 was back and forth but my opponent's tank's attack got reduced and that made a huge difference.
It took some time to get rid of their tank but at the start of round 3 it got eliminated and all my units were almost in full health and it looked easy for me.
My Goblin Psychic did an incredible job of healing back up the Unicorn Mustang whenever it took damage and my opponent failed to get rid of it which made all the difference and granted me an easier win.
All my units worked well and made it look so easy.
Conclusion
Unprotected ruleset is a simple one to understand as all armour is removed from the units. This makes up for an interesting challenge where using strong melee and ranged attackers can be a good strategy.
Also, using units which normally don't come with armour is a good choice for your battle as you will not lose anything because of the ruleset in that case. So, there are so many strategies but always going back to the fundamentals is good too. Have a strong tank, support it with healing units and just keep an eye out on the placement of your range, magic or non-attacking units and you are good to go!
Let me know what your strategy is with this ruleset.
