My BATTLE MAGE SECRET Weekly Challenge! Heavy Hitters

Hello there, this is my entry to the latest "Battle Mage Secret Weekly Challenge!". If you want to participate or learn more about the challenge, click here. This week we have to formulate a strategy with the Heavy Hitters ruleset.

RULESET: Heavy Hitters

With the Heavy Hitter ruleset in action, the stunned monsters will take double the damage!

This ruleset is very easy to understand as the units who have been stunned will take double the damage from the enemy hits. This is useful if you have units with Stun ability in your lineup. Those stunned monsters will be easy targets. Other than this it doesn't affect much of your gameplay.

Let's see how this ruleset affects my lineup and how I strategies for the following battle.

My Lineup

This is my lineup for the battle

Position
Summoner/Monsters
Summoner
Keyla Frendul
Position 1
Grimbardun Fighter
Position 2
Pallus
Position 3
Deeplurker
Position 4
Venari Wavesmith
Position 5
Djinn Oshannus
Position 6
Nerissa Tridawn

It was a 49-mana cap battle and only had the "Heavy Hitters" ruleset.

All elements were active during this battle. I went with the Keyla Frendul which gave all the units extra armour and +1 speed.

I used the Grimbardun Fighter as my tank as it comes with decent health and 2 armour of its own. It also deals heavy melee attack damage and comes with 'Shield' and 'Corrosive Ward' ability which makes it a good defensive unit as well as a great attacking one.

The next one in my lineup was Pallus. I used it in the second position as it can attack even from there because of its 'reach' ability. Moreover, it comes with the 'flying' ability so it would have more missed chances too. It also costs 8 mana but is worth that as it deals 3 melee attack damage and has good health with a shield too!

In the third position, I placed the Deeplurker. Another heavy melee attacker dealing 4 melee attack damage with an 'opportunity' ability. I could have used it a bit further down the line too.

Venari Wavesmith was a good part of my strategy as it has the 'protect' ability and gives an extra 2 armour to all the friendly units which make it a very useful unit. I used it in the middle to shield it from the attacks as it has relatively lower health.

I used the Djinn Oshannus in the fifth position. It is a heavy hitter, dealing 2 magic attack damage with incredible speed and comes with a lot of health. It justifies its 8 mana costs with its stats. The 'Void' and 'Phase' abilities make it even more useful and help it last even longer during the battle.

I secured the end of my lineup by placing Nerissa Tridawn there. It comes with a lot of health and deals with 3 magic attack damage.

Now that my lineup was set, it was time for battle.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube.

My Strategy

Since this was a whooping 49 mana cost battle and had the 'Heavy hitters' ruleset. I didn't go for stun units, rather used extra protection in the form of armour and heavy attacking units so my units last longer while the enemy unit would get a lot of attacks.

Using heavy hitters throughout the length of my lineup was a deliberate effort. I had to support them with extra armour and both my summoner and Venari Wavesmith helped me achieve that. They gave me enough armour so I focused more on my attacking strength.

I couldn't use some healing units which was the drawback of this lineup.

This strategy, as you will see, worked in my favour and gave me a comfortable win at the end.

My opponent went with an interesting strategy as they wanted to use a gladiator unit and spent most of their mana on achieving it... They used the Quora Towershead as their gladiator unit which is a heavy hitters and can be a game changer. Most of their strategy was based on increasing the stats of this sole unit and they used units with 'martyr' adjacent to it.

But they had Terraceous Grunt as their tank which was not too sturdy and got easily eliminated by my units in the early part of the battle.

This eventually brought the Quora Towershead to the first position and it improved its stats by this point too. The battle looked in balance at this point just because of this unit's impressive stats and its ability to gain more as we progress.

But my units put up a great fight and the extra armour helped a lot and didn't let them succumb to all the attacks.

Quora lasted longer for a few more rounds but eventually got eliminated by the large no. of attacks my units were throwing at it.

This was the last nail in their coffin and with only ranged attackers left, no doubt is going to win that. It looked close in the middle but eventually, I achieved a good victory.

Conclusion

Heavy Hitters is a simple ruleset and easy to understand. One must try to use units with Stun ability so the stunned unit will take double the damage. But if you don't find a good unit with stun you can go back to the fundamentals of the game and try to hold on better by giving extra armour or heal to the units.

You can see from the above battle that if you have enough mana and freedom to use any unit you can use this freedom and come up with your own strategy without using stun units too. So, there can be multiple strategies in this ruleset and it all comes down to what you, as a player, are more comfortable with using.

Let me know which one you prefer in this ruleset.
