Fallow Deer Hunting in Hirschfelden Reserve | theHunter: Call of the Wild
Hello, gamers. Welcome back to my blog.
During my last gaming session, I was given a few side missions by a local researcher Mr Bhandari who is studying the Bison population in the region. Another impressive species in the Hirschfelden Hunting reserve is the European Fallow Deer, or the Fallow Deer. They are medium-sized deer with spotted coats and males have wide antlers.
I was assigned to spot 3 different Fallow deer. They are in the eastern part of the reserve. So, I fast-travelled to an eastern outpost and started looking for one. I saw some tracks and after following them for a while I reached this wind farm.
Under these massive windmills, I saw a small group of Fallow deer. At least four of them. So, I used my binoculars and spotted them which marked the end of this little mission. All it took was following the tracks which led me to this nice group.
After tracking them, I wouldn't want my efforts to go to waste so I aimed at one of them and shot it. It died rather quickly. They are not the biggest of deer species. They are only class 4 animals.
Even though I didn't get a vital shot but even I got it down pretty easily.
Taking picture of a Fallow deer
Once you complete a mission, a new mission automatically appears in the mission log and I should have seen it before shooting at the buck. In this next mission, I had to take picture of a fallow deer within 50 meters.
50 meters is too close, they get alerted and spooked if you make the slightest of noise within that distance. While I was planning to follow the herd that I recently spooked I saw another herd but this time it was Red deer.
This was quite a large herd.
It was a large group of females with only 1 male and that was mighty impressive. Its antlers were beautiful and I had to get that one no matter what. I was excited and took a long shot from almost 300 meters. The bullet pierced both of its lungs and I got an impressive gold trophy animal.
This gave a lot of cash and XP rewards as well. I levelled up and got a new skill point to spare. I used the skill point to unlock the ability to spot animals while in aim mode with weapons. So, I don't have to constantly switch between my binoculars and weapon scope to get more details about the animal. This is very useful and should make my life much easier.
I got back to my mission of finding and taking pictures of Fallow deer. I kept looking for tracks but all I could find were tracks from Roe deer and Red deer. I looked and looked and I couldn't find it. It was now getting dark. So, I travelled back to my outpost to rest and start looking the next morning.
The next morning when I woke up it was raining and the atmosphere was foggy. The visibility was much lower than I would have liked.
But I found some tracks and later saw a small group of fallow deer travelling eastward. I followed them while maintaining my distance. They got into the forest and it was much harder to track them there.
Red deer tracks were interfering with the fresh fallow deer tracks. I reached a lake but they didn't spot it there. I think they sensed me and fled from the scene.
By this time, the fog was gone and I saw a couple of red deer as well.
I carefully followed the right tracks and to my surprise, they took a long circular route back to the wind farm. Now it was clear that they sense me and fled and after some time they went back to their feeding zone (wind farm area).
Now that I know they are not moving. I crawled on the ground which makes the least noise and when you get this close to the ground, it gets much more difficult for animals to see me.
It took a lot of time and patience to get close and once I was close enough, I got up and hid in the bushes and trees. Fortunately, none of them was facing me so they had less chance of spotting me in the bushes. But still, I had to be very quiet and not make noise.
Getting within 50 meters was not easy but I got it with much patience and clicked a few pictures. This marked the end of a difficult tracking mission. It wasn't easy at all, especially for someone like me who like to snipe animals from a distance.
Anyways, now that I was close enough, I tried my best to kill as many of them. I shot one of them in the heart which was an instant kill. Another two got lung shots and I took another one day from a long distance. Killing 4 animals from the same herd is not an easy task.
Hunting in Hirschfelden is not as easy as somewhere like Silver Ridge Peaks. This reserve has patches of very dense forest and a moderate population of roe deer, red deer and a very less population of fallow deer. But you can find European Bisons on the far west side of the map which are significantly easier to kill as they like to graze in open grasslands and spruce forests.
The best thing about this map is the colour contrast with nice autumn hues. The forests have some of the best ambient music and overall graphics. The lakes are beautiful and make the map a great place to take in-game photos.
Thanks for reading...
Until next time...

Those jungle scenes are fantastic, man. This looks like a fantastic game.
Yes, it is a well-made game. I love the graphics as well. One of the best hunting simulators out there.

I may try it out sometime soon.
BTW, about hunting, do you get certain objectives to complete or are you free to hunt anything and everything?
You are free to hunt as you like... But sometimes you get specific objectives (when completing missions)

Ah I see. So the game is competitive enough. Thanks for your clarification.

You hunted your prey in cold blood like a real hunter, man. I like the realism of this game. Even where you shoot your prey is important, which is also important in real life. It's sad we can't play together because I'm a little busy right now.
This game is as close to real hunting as you can get. The tracking part is good as well, you have to look for tracks or their dropping and have to be careful of how much noise you make or which way the wind is blowing so the prey won't get your scent and flee the area. The graphics are great too, wish I had a better PC so I didn't have to play it on low-medium graphics.
No worry, bro. Maybe another game another time (or in another universe...hehe).
