Dredge - Catching more fish and upgrading my boat

Hello and Welcome back to my blog!

Let's continue the fishing adventure. Last time we met the Collector who examined our Handkerchief that we found inside a fish stomach. He was surprised to see it came from an old ship after it sank many years ago. He won't tell us why the vessel is important but he gave us equipment to dredge the wrecks.

There are a lot of shipwrecks around these islands. He wanted us to find a ring, a necklace, a music box and a key. He promised to reward us in ways we can't imagine so I accepted it.

After getting the equipment installed we can now get other items than fish. I dredged out a few wooden slabs next to a rock.

Back in the Greater Marrow, we met a lady who was trying to move out. She wanted to go to a nearby island, Steel Point. But first, we needed to scavenge some raw materials from the sea floor.

Another NPC with whom we interacted was the Lighthouse Keeper. She was an old woman who had seen some 'things' in the sea.

I asked her if she knew about any shipwrecks near this place. She told us to go look at the back side of the island. I should have been going next there but got busy upgrading my Rod. There is a Reseach section which allows us to unlock different kinds of equipment including rods.

I had one Reseach part and spent it on the Hydraulic Rod. This will allow us to fish in oceanic fish.

That's how I got my first shark in the game. A beautiful 'Bronze Whaler'. Its size was big and we could only fit one in my cargo.

I got a metal scrap too. I went back to the fishmonger and sold my catch and looked at the upgrades I could do to my boat. But all the upgrades required me to have something called Bolt of Cloth which I never saw in the game.

On the Little Marrow, we took on another quest to find some crabs which would allow the painter to get more pigments so he could use those colours and paint our boats too. Normally, I wouldn't have taken up this task but the possibility of him giving me a research part was there so I took it up.

Suddenly, you feel like everyone is giving you a quest and it got a bit harder to keep up with one task. I just wanted to fish for a while and get some upgrades going before attempting to do all the tasks that we were bombarded with.

There are crab pots in the game which allows you to catch these crabs passively. You just have to drop them in the water and crabs will be caught after some time. But these need to be repaired every few days. I just had the Basic Crab Pot which needs repairing every 3 days. That's how I got my first crabs. But it took some time and I wasn't much impressed by the fact that you have to pick them up, repair them on the shore and then throw them back in. It wasn't too exciting for me.

On the next day, I decided to venture out to the nearby islands. I saw a sparkle coming out of a stone and went close to investigate.

I placed my hands but the stone didn't respond to my touch. I wonder what item I need to equip or carry with me so it will respond. And what kind of response am I expecting from a stone? lol

I went back to fishing and making more money so I could upgrade a few things on my boat.

The worst part for the limited amount of space and you had to carry all the things like engines, rods, lights etc in your cargo along with the fish. Another thing that would be helpful is increasing the speed of my vessel.

I didn't have research parts to get a new engine but I could add a couple of engine slots in my cargo and add a second engine. That's exactly what I did.

I would love to get a new hull which adds 5 new cargo space to the boat. But before that, I have to do 3 more upgrades and they require some materials to be dredged first.

I fished for two more days and was able to get a couple of research parts too. I spent those on getting a new fishing pole. This would help me catch both Coastal and Shallow fish.

After a couple of days, I went into the deeper ocean to find more fish. And to my surprise, I saw a big whale under my boat. I was a bit startled at first and a bit afraid. But it was quite friendly and just swam with me.

I am slowly finding new fish and trying to fill up the encyclopedia. But there are hundreds of different varieties of fish in this game. Don't know if I will catch each one of them or even get close to it. But I am really enjoying this beautiful game. The music is amazing and the fishing mechanics are good too. Such an impressive indie title. It is something special.

Until next time...

Were you able to continue with this mission? I played it a long time ago and at the beginning it was quite a challenge the little space they give you until you upgrade the ship parts xD I also made the mistake of going out at night so you can imagine that I didn't do well trying to avoid the rocks that appeared in front of me and the sea creatures.

I did find one of the items, a big key. But I am not actively looking for them. I wanted to do some upgrades first. The limited space is quite a challenge for me too. You catch a few fish and you have to come back to sell them. xD

I've never heard anything about this game, but I've already been charmed by the cartoonish artwork with the details looking like polygons, or maybe it's just the way the shading works.
Great post.

Now am thinking of going fishing myself on a nice boat with a good summer weather. Ps I haven't done fishing before though 🙃
