Defeating the Broken Vessel Boss and unlocking new ability | Hollow Knight Gameplay

Hello, gamers. Welcome back to my blog.

The Kingdom of Hallownest contains a lot of secrets and last time we uncovered a new area, the Ancient Basins. A dark melancholic place filled with a lot of unwelcoming bugs and other creatures. We got here by taking the tram from Deepnest, another scary place deep underneath the kingdom. But unlike Deepnest this place feels like it holds many ancient secrets.

Luckily, it didn't take long to find our Cartographer who was busy charting this area so we bought an incomplete map and fill the rest of the
places on that map when we visit them.

This is what the map looked like so far. All the empty spaces you see on the bottom and left of the map are just places we haven't visited.

We super dashed our way to cross a long hallway filled with spikes.

Nature has almost reclaimed this place and there are a lot of unique enemy bugs here. One of them is the bigger version of Lesser Mawlek that we found before. These bigger ones can't move but they spew their venom to greater distances.

They are placed in your way and bypassing them is quite difficult. If you remain patient they are not much of a threat though. You can also find some spots where you can stand for a couple of seconds and not take damage. One of

But these bugs were just a trailer, the real challenge was in the room on the far east side of the map.

Broken Vessel Boss Fight

Broken Vessel is an interesting boss, we found the corpse of a Knight like us and as we started investigating it, a horde of small infectious seeds came rushing and went inside the vessel and took control of its body.

This is one of the most challenging boss fights so far, it has a lot of attack types, typically a boss has like 3-4 unique attacks but this had a lot of different types of attacks. Fortunately, the speed of those attacks was not too much.

I was on 1 health a few times during this fight, its dash attack is difficult to dodge for me as I try to stick to the ground. One of the most challenging attacks to dodge is when it gets mad and smashes its head on the floor and the infected balloon-type things come out of it in all directions. I was very lucky to kill it on the first try, I couldn't believe it at first and thought there would be a second phase in the battle but no I defeated it.

But it didn't drop anything so I was curious to see what I find in the next room which I could go to after the infection was cleared by killing that Broken Vessel Boss.

Collecting the Monarch Wings

I saw a room with an item levitating in the middle and I just grabbed it. It was the Monarch Wings! They give me the ability to second jump now, which is so cool!

This is going to unlock so many new places and I can now reach those ledges and platforms which were just slightly out of reach and I wondered how I could get there. Now this new ability just answers so many questions.

Just look at this little challenge to reach to the trapped Grub, I had to use wall jump, dash and the second jump to reach it. I can already see that the platforming will be more challenging and I have to now mesh up a lot of keys that do a lot of unique movements. I hope the game remains kind to me. So far, apart from a few places it has not been bad.

There were no more things on that side of the map so I had to head back to the Bench and reassess the situation and see where should I go next. Looking at the map I could see a Palace Ground and my next aim would to be check that out. Also, I can go further south too. For now, let me sit and relax on the bench and celebrate my win over the Broken Vessel.
