Visit Portugal - Molhe Beach in Foz

This morning, I decided to start my day with one of my favourite routines a walk along Molhe Beach in Foz. The scent of the sea, the sound of the waves and the peacefulness of the empty streets make it the perfect way to begin any day.

As is my custom, I set out for my morning walk today, heading towards Praia do Molhe, located in the charming Foz do Douro area of Porto. The air was crisp, the scent of the sea was undeniable, and I could already tell it would be one of those refreshing mornings where I could feel truly connected with nature.

Como é meu costume, parti hoje para o meu passeio matinal, em direcção à Praia do Molhe, situada na encantadora zona da Foz do Douro, no Porto. O ar estava fresco, o cheiro a mar era inegável e eu já sabia que seria uma daquelas manhãs refrescantes onde me poderia sentir verdadeiramente ligado à natureza.

It was still early when I left home, around 8 AM and the streets were relatively empty. There's a particular stillness in the air during this hour, one that seems to evaporate as the city slowly awakens. I've come to appreciate these moments of solitude in my routine walks. The city, still half asleep, provides a perfect backdrop for reflection.

Ainda era cedo quando saí de casa, por volta das 8h, e as ruas estavam relativamente vazias. Há uma quietude particular no ar durante esta hora, que parece evaporar-se à medida que a cidade desperta lentamente. Passei a apreciar estes momentos de solidão nas minhas caminhadas rotineiras. A cidade, ainda meio adormecida, oferece um cenário perfeito para a reflexão.

The mornings have been cooler lately. The transition from summer to autumn is unmistakable now. Even though the sun had already started to rise, painting the sky with hues of gold, there was still a noticeable chill in the air. I was glad I had worn an extra layer. The mornings along the coast tend to feel colder, and today was no exception. But this slight chill was exactly what I needed. It heightened my senses and made me more aware of my surroundings.

As manhãs têm sido mais frescas nos últimos tempos. A transição do verão para o outono é agora inconfundível. Embora o sol já tivesse começado a nascer, pintando o céu com tons dourados, ainda se notava um frio no ar. Fiquei feliz por ter usado uma camada extra. As manhãs ao longo da costa tendem a ser mais frias e hoje não foi exceção. Mas este ligeiro frio era exatamente o que eu precisava. Aguçou os meus sentidos e tornou-me mais consciente do que estava ao meu redor.

One of the first things I noticed as I approached the beach was the distinct smell of the sea. It's a smell that I associate with childhood memories of summers spent on the beach, and it never fails to transport me back. There's something both nostalgic and soothing about it. The briny scent mixed with the earthy smell of damp sand and seaweed feels like an embrace from nature.

Uma das primeiras coisas que notei ao aproximar-me da praia foi o cheiro característico do mar. É um cheiro que associo às memórias de infância dos verões passados ​​na praia e que nunca deixa de me transportar de volta. Há algo de nostálgico e reconfortante nisso. O aroma salgado misturado com o cheiro terroso da areia húmida e das algas parece um abraço da natureza.

The Molhe Beach is particularly special in this regard. The ocean breeze carries the unmistakable fragrance of saltwater, and as the wind blew gently, I breathed it in deeply, filling my lungs with this essence of the sea. It's a reminder of how close we are to nature, even within the urban confines of the city.

A Praia do Molhe é particularmente especial neste aspeto. A brisa do mar transporta a fragrância inconfundível da água salgada e, enquanto o vento soprava suavemente, respirei profundamente, enchendo os meus pulmões com esta essência do mar. É um lembrete de quão próximos estamos da natureza, mesmo dentro dos limites urbanos da cidade.

As I continued along the beachside path, I couldn't help but appreciate the sunny weather. Although the temperature was cool, the sun was shining brightly, casting long shadows on the sand and reflecting off the surface of the water. The ocean was relatively calm, with gentle waves rolling towards the shore in a steady rhythm.

Ao continuar pelo caminho à beira-mar, não pude deixar de apreciar o tempo ensolarado. Embora a temperatura fosse baixa, o sol brilhava intensamente, lançando longas sombras na areia e refletindo-se na superfície da água. O oceano estava relativamente calmo, com ondas suaves a rolarem em direção à costa a um ritmo constante.

I stopped for a moment to take in the view of the ocean. From where I stood, the water stretched out infinitely, meeting the horizon in a soft line where the sky blended into the sea. There's something about the vastness of the ocean that always makes me feel small, but in a comforting way. It's a reminder that the world is so much bigger than my daily worries and stresses. Here, in front of the endless expanse of water, everything seems to fall into perspective.

Parei por um momento para apreciar a vista do oceano. Do local onde me encontrava, a água estendia-se infinitamente, encontrando o horizonte numa linha suave onde o céu se misturava com o mar. Há algo na vastidão do oceano que me faz sempre sentir pequeno, mas de uma forma reconfortante. É um lembrete de que o mundo é muito maior do que as minhas preocupações e stress diários. Aqui, perante a extensão infinita da água, tudo parece entrar em perspetiva.

Walking along this stretch of coastline in Foz is always a pleasure, not just for the natural beauty but also because of the area itself. Foz do Douro is one of the most prestigious and affluent areas in Porto. The streets are lined with elegant homes and beautiful gardens and the entire area exudes a sense of refinement and history. I often find myself admiring the majestic houses that overlook the ocean, with their well maintained facades and neatly trimmed gardens. It's no surprise that this is considered one of the richest neighbourhoods in Porto.

Percorrer este troço de costa da Foz é sempre um prazer, não só pelas belezas naturais mas também pela própria zona. A Foz do Douro é uma das zonas mais prestigiadas e ricas do Porto. As ruas estão repletas de casas elegantes e belos jardins, e toda a área emana uma sensação de requinte e história. Muitas vezes dou por mim a admirar as majestosas casas viradas para o oceano, com as suas fachadas bem cuidadas e jardins bem aparados. Não é surpresa que este seja considerado um dos bairros mais ricos do Porto.

The cooler morning temperature also brought a freshness to the entire experience. The usual heat of summer had given way to a more comfortable and pleasant climate, perfect for walking without feeling overheated or fatigued. It's clear that we're moving into the early days of autumn, and while part of me misses the warmth of summer, I've always loved the crispness of fall mornings by the beach.

A temperatura mais fresca da manhã também trouxe frescura a toda a experiência. O habitual calor do verão deu lugar a um clima mais confortável e agradável, perfeito para caminhar sem se sentir sobreaquecido ou cansado. É claro que estamos a entrar nos primeiros dias de outono e, embora parte de mim sinta falta do calor do verão, sempre adorei a frescura das manhãs de outono na praia.

Walking along the Foz coastline is more than just a way to get some exercise, it's a chance to reconnect with nature, to appreciate the beauty of my surroundings, and to reflect on life. Whether it's the cool mornings of autumn or the warm summer days, this place never fails to inspire me.
