Visit Portugal - Fishermen's Village by the sea

Hi everyone 👋 😃
This morning I took one of my favourite walks down to Portinho de Angeiras, the charming fishermen's village near where I live, and I just had to share how peaceful and beautiful it was.

I love walking early in the morning it's the best time for me. The air is cool and fresh, and there's a sense of calmness that's hard to find at any other time of day. As I stepped outside, I was greeted by the familiar scent of the beach fresh, salty and slightly earthy from the sand. There's nothing quite like breathing in that crisp seaside air to wake you up and start your day off right.

The village was quiet, with only the sound of waves gently rolling in and the occasional cry of a seagull in the distance. The sun was just beginning to rise, and the sky was a perfect shade of blue with not a single cloud in sight. It was one of those beautiful late summer mornings, where the weather is still warm but with a gentle breeze to keep things comfortable.

During the week, Portinho de Angeiras is buzzing with activity. The fishermen are out early, preparing their boats, fixing their nets and getting ready for the days catch. But since it was the weekend, the village had a different vibe. The fishermen were taking a well deserved break and the usual hustle and bustle was replaced by a quiet calm.

As I walked along the sandy beach, I saw the boats resting on the shore. They were colorful, painted in reds, blues and greens, but now they sat quietly on the sand, waiting for the start of a new week. Some were a bit worn from years of use, but that only added to their charm, showing the history and hard work of the people here.

Even though the fishermen weren't out working, you could still see traces of their daily life. Scattered around the beach were stacks of crates, some filled with tangled fishing nets.

One of the things that always catches my eye when I walk through Portinho de Angeiras is the colorful houses. The homes here are painted in bright shades, yellows, pinks, blues and greens, which stand out beautifully against the backdrop of the beach and the blue sky. These simple houses are full of character and they make the village feel warm and inviting.

Each house seems to have its own unique style, and many have small balconies or terraces with plants and flowers, adding even more color to the scene. I love walking through the narrow streets, taking in the sights and sounds of everyday life in the village.

The fishing gear, left out in the open, tells the story of a community that has lived by the sea for generations. It's hard to imagine how much work goes into fishing until you see the tools up close, and it makes you appreciate just how important this industry is to the area.

It's always fascinating to see these everyday objects simple things like ropes, hooks because they’re such an important part of life in this village.

Portinho de Angeiras is also known for its seafood, and you can't visit without trying some of the fresh fish that comes straight from the ocean. There are several small restaurants near the beach and they all serve up local dishes made with the freshest catch of the day. Today, as I walked past them, the smell of grilled fish filled the air, reminding me that lunchtime wasn't far away.

The seafood here is some of the best you can find grilled sardines, octopus, seafood rice, you name it. Each dish is simple but packed with flavour and it's the kind of food that makes you appreciate living so close to the sea. The fact that the fish is caught just a few meters away from where it's served adds an extra layer of authenticity to the experience.
