Visit Portugal - Crystal Palace Gardens Walk

Visit Portugal - Crystal Palace Gardens Walk.png

Early mornings in Porto have a charm that's hard to beat, especially on warm, sunny autumn days like today. As I set off on my usual walk through the Jardins do Palácio de Cristal, I was greeted by the calm and beauty of a perfect autumn morning, ideal for exploring the quieter paths of this place. I had a few particular spots in mind for today's walk, the Torreão do Jardim do Palácio, the serene Parque da Quinta da Macieirinha and, of course, the Miradouro Mayer, each offering a unique view of the city and the Douro River below.

Starting early means catching the gardens at their most peaceful, before other visitors arrive. As the sun rose, it illuminated everything with a soft, golden light, making the gardens look even more beautiful. Autumn days can be a bit cooler here, but today was surprisingly warmoune of those rare days where you can enjoy both the crispness of fall and the warmth of the sun.

One of the first stops on my route today was the Torreão do Jardim do Palácio, a classic structure that feels like it belongs in another era. This historic tower stands elegantly in the garden, blending with the natural surroundings and giving a slightly regal feel to the place. I love pausing here to take in the old-world charm and imagine what life in Porto must have been like when the gardens were first designed.

The Torreão offers an ideal vantage point to get a glimpse of the surrounding gardens as well as distant views of Porto architecture. It's a little hidden gem within the gardens, and each time I visit, it gives me a renewed appreciation for the history that's woven into these paths.

From the Torreão, I continued my walk towards the Parque da Quinta da Macieirinha, another peaceful area within the gardens that feels almost like a small, secluded park of its own. This part of the gardens has a rustic charm, with shaded paths, plenty of greenery, and a more intimate atmosphere compared to the main open areas. The trees here were in full autumn colours, with golden leaves creating a natural canopy over the paths.

One of my favourites things about the Parque da Quinta da macieirinha is the sense of tranquility. With fewer people around, it's easy to get lost in thought, taking in the surrounding beauty without distraction. The benches here invite you to sit, relax, and enjoy the sounds of nature birds chirping.

64.jpg

No walk through the Jardins do Palácio de Cristal would be complete without stopping to admire the view of the Douro River. As I reached the next lookout point, I could see the river stretching out below, its surface shimmering under the autumn sun.

Beyond the river, Porto rooftops and winding streets were on full display, with the characteristic red tiled roofs standing out against the bright sky. Across the Douro, Vila Nova de Gaia lay sprawled out on the opposite bank, with its famous port wine cellars creating a backdrop that feels both historic and inviting.

I spent a few moments here, taking in the view. Its one of those sights that never gets old and I always find myself snapping a few photos, even though I've been here many times before.

PT - Português 🇵🇹

Passei aqui alguns momentos, apreciando a vista.

After spending a little more time wandering the paths and soaking up the scenery, I started to make my way back towards the city. The Torreão do Jardim do Palácio, the Parque da Quinta da Macieirinha, and the Miradouro Mayer had each offered their own unique perspectives on the city

If you are ever in Porto, the Jardins do Palácio de Cristal are a must visit, especially in the early morning when the gardens are at their most peaceful. Whether you're a local or a visitor, these gardens offer a little bit of everything breathtaking views, serene paths and a chance to connect with the history and beauty of Porto.

I went to these gardens last year and they are really beautiful, although I had cold weather and light rain. But anyway, I enjoyed the visit. Thanks for sharing!

Hello! Thank you very much for posting in the Worldmappin Community 😃.

We noticed that you included more than one PIN code in the post. This is not necessary and can lead to double pinning. If you are writing about a trip with different points of interest, it is advisable to indicate only one PIN of the most important place or central location.

Double pinning can lead to problems for our curation, so if you keep doing it we can not guarantee you to be considered for our daily Travel Digest.

We recommend that you obtain the code either from https://worldmappin.com/, or by selecting the location directly on the small map at the bottom of the text editor in the PeakD interface.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our team on our Discord channel.

Cheers!
