Iasmin conta que seu apelido vem da época que ia para os bailes dançar com seus amigos. Tinha uma música que eles gostavam muito, chamada ''Passinho da Tubininha''. Quando tocava o som, eles dançavam muito chamando atenção de todas pessoas no baile. Seu amigo ficava repetindo: você vai ser a turbininha. E com o tempo ela aceitou o apelido.
Iasmin says that her nickname comes from the time she went to the dances to dance with her friends. There was a song they liked very much, called "Passinho da Tubininha". When i played the sound, they danced a lot, getting everyone's attention at the dance. Your friend kept repeating: you're going to be the little treb. And in time she accepted her nickname.
Aos 18 anos, Iasmin Soares tomou uma decisão arriscada. O McDonald’s do shopping Nova América, na zona norte do Rio, fora destruído por um incêndio. Os funcionários que moravam perto seriam transferidos para uma unidade próxima, enquanto o restante perderia o emprego. Ela, com dois anos de casa, ia ficar. Entre os dispensados, havia uma jovem mãe necessitada. Iasmin não tinha plano B, mas cedeu a vaga.
Não demorou para o calor das chapas dar lugar ao do público. Hoje, aos 25, onde quer que a DJ da Mangueira chegue para se apresentar, encontra fãs clamam por uma selfie. Sorridente, ela atende a cada um dos pedidos, sem medo de poses exóticas. São cerca de 200 fotos ao longo da noite. Quando finalmente chega à mesa de som, anuncia o que está por vir.
“Boa noite, rapaziadinha! Pra avisar que, a partir de agora, é só pu-ta-ria”.
At the age of 18, Iasmin Soares made a risky decision. The McDonald's from the New America mall in the northside of Rio de Janeiro had been destroyed by a fire. Iasmin Turbininha, a primeira mulher DJ do funk, tem mais de 430 mil seguidores no YouTube. Ela é parte de uma geração que colocou o Rio de novo em evidência no cenário do gênero, depois de anos de domínio paulista. O 150 BPM – vertente do ritmo tocada em 150 batidas por minuto – é uma febre carioca que se espalha pelo Brasil. Turbininha é uma das principais difusoras da modalidade, que trouxe novos fãs para o funk, mas não sem enfrentar resistência entre os puristas do gênero. “Se você não tocar 150 no baile hoje, nego não dança. É o que segura o Rio hoje”, explica a DJ.

She is part of a generation that has put Rio back in the spotlight in the gender scene, after years of são Paulo rule. Em 2020, Turbininha recebeu um prêmio do Multishow e uma mensagem de parabéns de Caetano Veloso. E segundo ela mesmo disse, é da Mangueira para o Mundo.

A Iasmin explica que acontece de tudo. Quando explodiu o ritmo 150 BPM alguns djs de algumas comunidades começaram a usar músicas antigas e apenas aceleravam elas. Não produziam em 150, e isso gerou muita confusão com djs antigos. Ela diz que isso não é legal e também diz que cada comunidade tem um estilo próprio para produzir funk. Como o Baile da Gaiola que usa mais a Tabacada, Na mangueira é o ritmo da Mangueira, aquele ''cha, cha'' haha. No Lins é mais ''Evolução''.
Iasmin explains that everything happens. When the 150 BPM rhythm exploded some dJs from some communities started using old songs and just accelerated them. They didn't produce in 150, and that generated a lot of confusion with old DJs. She says this isn't cool and also says that each community has its own style to produce funk. As the Baile da Gaiola that uses tabacada more, In the Mangueira is the rhythm of the Mangueira, that ''cha, cha'' haha. In Lins it's more evolution.
