The Monster Inside Allan (A short Fiction Based on #128 Inkwell Prompt)
Allan got back from the doctor’s office and was devastated from the reports of his tests. He had a malignant tumor in his belly. He thought the cause for it is definitely the years of stress he went through at his job as a police officer. The doctor told him that he should get a surgery as soon as possible and when he is ready. The problem was he never could be ready because of the fear he had of doing surgeries.
“What are you doing, you should be resting, didn’t you hear what the doctor said?!” Anna, his wife, snapped at him from the kitchen.
“I don’t want to have the surgery!” Allan whispered while cleaning the pile of garbage in the basement. Cleaning gave him satisfaction, something he needed to distract himself from thinking about his future physical and mental health.
“I’ll be down here for a while, I’m not having lunch, so don’t wait for me, Just leave me alone for a while,” Allan shouted from the basement.
Anna was worried, but did not insist Allan have lunch. She understood that Allan was upset because he hated doing the surgery. He was terrified of it. He always talked about ways to not go to the doctor by eating healthy and getting exercise, but stress was a part of his life and he couldn’t avoid it. Anna believed he went after his grandmother, who always found ways not to go to the doctor and heal herself by other means, like herbal mixtures.
Allan was sorting through the garbage in the basement when he found a pile of old letters. It was his late grandmother’s writing. The letters were addressed to her friend Anastasia. From the letters, Allan found out a lot of information about his grandmother’s relationship with a mystic named Ahmad.
Ahmad was a young man when his grandmother Georgina went to visit him. He had a supernatural ability that no one believed would be possible.
Allan put the pieces together and found out his grandmother Georgina went to Ahmad to heal her insomnia. She could not sleep without her pills and this made her weak. She was suffering and the doctors couldn’t help her.
In the letters, Grandmother Georgina described Ahmad’s ability as such: “I never thought it would be possible to see my disease manifested as an entity having its own will and power. Something that is only believable in the fictional world. He makes you go deep, and you will find it and then destroy it.”
Allan realized this is a long shot, but he needed to take it. He got determined to use Ahmad’s services. Ahmad was a miracle he’s been wanting to have in his life since he got sick. So, he wrote down Ahmad’s address on a piece of paper and said goodbye to his family and left. Although Anna asked him where he was going, but he was in a rush and only replied, “to a place where I will get rid of this disease.” Ahmad’s house wasn’t far. It was only a two-hour drive to get there.
When he knocked on Ahmad’s door, an old man opened the door. Allan said how he found him and why he came and asked for help.
“I need your help,” Allan said, desperation was apparent in his voice and the expression on his face wasn't looking good.
“Come on in, my door is always open for Georgina’s friends and family,” Ahmad said, pointing to Allan to come inside.
Allan gladly went inside and looked around. There were all sorts of strange symbols on the walls.
“It’s for protection, my specialty is conjuration of the spirit of diseases, it is only wise to protect myself from them,” Ahmad said calmly, noticing a bit of fear in Allan.
“There is nothing to be afraid of. I will be by your side guiding you through everything,” Ahmad said, making sure Allan feels supported.
After about a few minutes, they reached a large room with two comfortable leather chairs and all sorts of books about the supernatural.
“So, are you ready to get hypnotized?” Ahmad said with a kind smile on his face, pointing to Allan to sit on the chair and get comfortable.
“I have never been more ready in my life, let’s get rid of this disease,” Allan said with a new-found bravery because he knew he could trust his grandmother’s friend.
“This is going to be intense,” Ahmad put his hands on the two sides of Allan’s head and closed his eyes. Suddenly Allan felt sleepy and went into a deep sleep, but he was still conscious, and could talk and listen to Ahmad.
“So, tell me what you see?” Ahmad asked, now getting comfortable in a chair situated beside Allan.
“I see a cottage, there is someone in it, or should I say something!” Allan said his pupils moving.
“Hide somewhere and wait for it to come out of the cottage,” Ahmad said, he got excited every time he helped a patient, and this time was no exception.
Allan waited behind the bushes for it to come out.
“Allan look around you, there must be a silver sword around you somewhere, take it and use it when it came out of the cottage,” Ahmad said closing his eyes and manifesting the sword for Allan.
A sword suddenly appeared on the ground.
The entity came out of the cottage. Its body was of a white color. It had black eyes with no mouth. It was indeed a monster.
As Allan came closer, he realized that the monster looked a lot like himself, but it was heinous and dirty.
Allan without hesitation rushed towards the monster with the silver sword in his hands. The monster noticed him and took him as an invader, so it attacked back. They grappled with each other and there was a fight.
In a moment, he saw all the pain and suffering he went through his life in its eyes, it was like a part of him manifested in front of him.
The monster was getting weak and just before Allan put the sword in its heart, he hesitated, “I can’t do this. I can’t kill something that is part of me!” Allan shouted in pain, his eyes were watery and a few tears dropped on the ground.
“You must do it yourself! No one can do it for you! You must fight back!” Ahmad shouted into his ears, giving him more energy.
Allan put the sword into its heart and cried with pain. Something changed in him, a heaviness was lifted from him, and he could finally be free.
Allan opened his eyes in the hospital and Ahmad was watching him. He saw Ahmad from behind the window of his room for a moment, but soon he disappeared.
Allan’s doctor came inside the room to congratulate him for beating his disease.
“A kind gentleman brought you in on time. We removed your tumor! We had to do the surgery in advance because we thought it might endanger you due to the condition you were in a few hours ago. The surgery was a success! I am surprised because in your tests, it was written the tumor is malignant, and was taking over your body, but when we did the surgery the tumor turned out to be a benign one, and we were all surprised. We easily removed it, and you can get discharged in a few days. We informed your wife about this, and she is on her way to you. Rest a bit, okay?” The doctor said with a smile and left the room.
Allan thought about Ahmad and the monster he saw. He thought about the surgery, which he finally did. He defeated the monster. This was over and he came out triumphant. He closed his eyes and went to a deep sleep, this time for rest.
Wow! This is such a believable story. Grandma Georgina's friend led Allan to his healing. I just kept wondering what magical strand will come from the battle between him and the monster before the transition to the hospital emerged.
A well told story.
Yes, Allan put the sword into the monster's heart, which was his disease. This made its energy weak, and so the tumor became benign.
Thanks for reading my fictional story. ❤️
In Allan's fear of dealing with his illness, he found a deeper terror that hid beneath the surface. It is wonderful that a visit to this healer could give him the strength he needed to go through the surgery while he was unconscious, coming through with the issues that caused it in the first place resolved as well.
