Hearts Full of Flowers (A short Fiction Based on #127 Inkwell Prompt)
Liliana lived in a town where the beauty of its gardens were famous. She lost her mother when she was a little child. Her aunt raised her, but recently she lost her as well. Her father was still alive, but she never saw him and never had any attachment to him because, as her mother told her, his father left them when she was pregnant with Liliana.
Whenever Liliana missed her mother, she would come and sit by the window and watch the flowers moving with the wind. It was a pleasure to watch such a beautiful scene.
On the day of her mother’s birthday, she especially missed her and watching the flowers from the window didn’t bring her the satisfaction she needed. She decided to go to the garden and talk to the flowers.
She picked a really beautiful flower and started to talk to it. She talked about how kind her mother was, how she took care of her when she was only a little child.
Suddenly she felt she heard a voice coming from the flower.
“I am so sad you lost your mother, but know this, that with a loss, comes a gain, and you never have to worry about things that are not in your hands, they are in the hands of fate and this universe is a reflection of our actions and thoughts, you need not focus too much on what you lost,” the flower said.
Liliana was taken aback. She was surprised to hear the delicate voice of the flower. But, soon, her heart warmed towards her and they continued their conversation.
“I usually come and talk to flowers, but they never talk back, how come you talk to me now?” Liliana asked.
“When the stars come together in a certain way, the flowers can talk to humans for three days, and they can grant three wishes every night, Do you hear their whisper?” the flower asked.
“The whisper of stars?” Liliana replied confused.
“Yes, they are telling you good things will happen to you. Fate is working in your favor. Just wait and see,” The flower said.
“Now, I can grant three wishes for you, request something,” The flower continued.
“I want to see my mother again. I see her in my dreams, but I want to see her when I am awake. In this way, I can touch her again and feel her warmth again, and I will be happy, if you can grant this wish, I will forever be grateful to you,” Liliana said tears gathering in her eyes.
“Why are you so attached to the past? It’s been a long time since you lost your mother! Don’t you want love in your life? You seem to never let go of your mother, I will grant your wish because you asked me that, but think about what I said,” The flower said.
“Thank you so much, I will never forget your kindness. I will think about what you said,” Liliana said.
Liliana got up and saw her mother standing in front of her. She was wearing a black dress and was sad. Liliana ran towards her mother to hold her in her arms, but she realized that a negative energy was emitting from her mother.
“Forgive me Liliana! I did bad things to you! I did terrible things to you! My lie is never forgiven!” Liliana’s mother said to her.
“What lie? What did you lie about? Tell me mother!” Liliana demanded.
“Your father never left you and me. I lied to you because I wanted to protect you from his mother. Your grandmother was evil, and she wanted to separate me and your father, and she finally succeeded. I couldn’t let her have you, so I escaped from them and never looked back. Your father might want to see you. Pay a visit and meet your father. Also, you should forget about me and live your life, you can’t think about me and live with my memory forever! I won’t be at peace until I see you happy having a family of your own!” Liliana’s mother said and disappeared.
“Mother wait! ….. Don’t go yet! … I miss you! …” Liliana cried, but it was too late and her mother was gone already.
Liliana ran towards the flower. But she stopped talking to her. She figured that she will talk to her tomorrow. So, she patiently waited and then went to the garden to see the flower again.
“Hello there! Are you looking for me? I’m here,” the flower said.
“So, how was your meeting with your mother went? Did it satisfy you?” The flower asked.
“I have another wish,” Liliana said impatiently.
“My mother was very sad. My wish is for her to be happy again. She thinks that because she lied about my father, that I will never forgive her,” Liliana said.
“Find Heart flowers. They are flowers in the shape of a heart. They are in the color red. Find 10 of them. They are used to transfering love energy to the deceased. They must be charged first with heart shaped candles. Bring those flowers to your mother’s grave, and she will be at peace again,” the flower said.
“Where do I find these flowers?”Liliana asked.
“You must travel by horse to a land called Heartwood, and find a man called Mr. Aaron who owns a big garden and sells these flowers with a good price.”
“Heartwood is not far from here. When I was little, I went to Heartwood several times. I am originally from Heartwood, as it is my last name,” Liliana said.
“Good then, you won’t be lost as you know your way!” the flower said.
Liliana embarked on a journey to buy the Heart flowers. When she arrived at Heartwood, she asked around to find Mr. Aaron’s address.
When Liliana arrived at Mr. Aaron’s garden, she was amazed at the numerous kinds of flowers in his garden. The great scent of the flowers filled the air. The amount of positive energy that filled the place was surprising to Liliana. She never saw a more beautiful garden.
“Mr. Aaron must be a happy man to live in a garden like this,” Liliana thought to herself.
Nobody was inside the garden, so Liliana entered the house, and looked for Mr. Aaron. She looked around, and her eyes fixated on a portrait of a woman who looked exactly like her mother. A man was standing beside her, he was handsome. They were smiling. Liliana came closer to the portrait to see it better when she suddenly jumped from a voice heard from behind.
“She was my wife. I loved her so much, but she ran away from me, and took my child,” Mr. Aaron said.
“What did you want, dear? What kind of flowers do you want? How may I be of service to you,” Mr. Aaron continued.
Liliana didn’t say a word, but her eyes were filled with tears. She was standing in front of her father. He looked just like the portrait, but older with sad eyes.
“I want Heart flowers, would you sell me some?” Liliana asked with a lump in her throat.
“Yes, of course, you must have a dear one to come all this way?” Mr. Aaron said.
“Yes, it’s for my mother?” Liliana said, a tear dropping from her eyes.
“What’s her name, my dear?” Mr. Aaron asked.
“Her name is Flora,” Liliana hesitated for a moment but told her mother’s name.
Mr. Aaron’s face changed, and he stared at Liliana.
“And what is your name?” Mr. Aaron asked.
“Liliana Heartwood,” Liliana replied.
Mr. Aaron was taken aback. His eyes zoomed in on Liliana.
“So, after all these years you came back to me,” Mr. Aaron said and sat on the stairs that was behind him.
A few tears fell from his eyes, but he was too weak to hug Liliana. Liliana did not know how to react in this situation, but she was glad to see her father at last. She knew deep down that her mother wouldn’t marry someone weak.
“I am glad to see you finally and reunite,” Liliana said.
“All these years I look out from the window and imagine you come back to me and now my wish finally is granted, come to me my child,” Mr. said while crying.
Liliana hugged her father and she felt she has someone by her side after so many years of being alone.
“We must go to my mother’s grave and bring the Heart flowers, we must both forgive my mother so she’d be at peace,” Liliana said.
“I will come with you, It’s been years since I forgave your mother, it is you that need to forgive her. I know that you are angry at her deep down because she kept you away from me all these years,” Mr. Aaron said.
"Yes, of course, I forgive her," Liliana said.
They charged Flora’s flowers and went straight to her grave and put the Heart flowers on her grave. An energy emanating from the flowers went straight to Flora’s grave and she finally felt at peace.
A handsome man called Daniel was visiting his father at the cemetery. Mr. Aaron recognized him because he was good friends with his father. Daniel expressed his concern about his father.
“I saw my father in my dreams. He was not at peace because he lied to me about my mother. She is still alive and I met her yesterday. He deprived of my mother, I will never forgive him,” Daniel said.
Liliana noticed the similarity between Daniel’s situation and her own and tried to comfort him.
“You must forgive your father, so you both be at peace,” Liliana said.
Daniel agreed and tried to forgive his father.
“I think he won’t forgive himself, even if I did,” Daniel said.
When they were having a conversation, Daniel noticed Liliana’s grace and beauty and became infatuated with her and later that day asked her father for her hand in marriage.
The third night came, but Liliana didn’t know what to wish for, or what her answer would be to Daniel’s marriage request.
She went to the garden to find the speaking flower.
“My final wish is to know what I can do to help Daniel’s father be at peace, “Liliana said.
“Same as you did with your mother. Use 10 Heart flowers. Liliana, this is our last night. Promise me to always listen to your heart when making decisions!” The flower siad.
“I promise,” Liliana said happily.
Liliana went to Daniel’s father’s grave and put the Heart flowers on his grave. She did not ntoice right away, but Daniel followed her and saw how generous she was and fell in love with her more.
Daniel went towards Liliana. She smiled and her heart was full of joy. It was fate working in her favor just as the flower said.
