A Day Out To Old Fisherman Wharf
Hello everyone! This is my entry to @derangedvisions Photography Contest held exclusive here on Liktu. This week’s then is black and white.
In todays post my family, and I went to check out cars in Monterey. It was car week here on the Peninsula, and since I worked all week I missed out on the events, however there are still cars out, and about. Be on the lookout under my main account @jonyoudyer for that post. Today I will show you something that was an amazing site to see.
If you recall a couple posts ago I posted about a shark attack at Lovers Point, which is located a couple miles from the Wharf. Well there was actually another shark attack in the same place This one less violent, and it just bit off a piece of a paddle board. This means only one thing. There is an abundance of Great Whites in the Bay!
In summer time Sea Lions travel south to mate. But not this year. They’re to afraid to venture out into the deeper shark infested waters. So they are gathering as close to the inland as they can get. I’ve never seen so many congregated in one area as this.
When we where looking at cars the sound of barking sea lions was loud. Which is a sound you normally do here when you come to this area. But it was louder then normal. Then when we got closer we so a big crowd of people standing, which was another weird site to see. Since most people are further into the area where the businesses are located.
However this is not the first time it has been bad like this. In the mid 2000’s there where so many Sea Lions the boat ramp was shut down for a whole month!
Yes this is a cool site to see. But not so much for those who work nearby, or if you owned a boat. This creatures are quite nasty, and stink. They have also been known to climb into boats, and sink them! I asked a host at a restaurant overlooking this phenomenon how long have they been there for? His reply was quick, and stern,”For too damn long!”
