I'm Sorry, Jane

As the sun rose on the horizon, it became clear what had happened.
"They're dating now, right?" Jane asked, taking a few more sips of her coffee.

George, her co-worker sitting across from her, didn't know how to answer that question. He wanted Jane to understand that Edward was gone, but he also wanted to protect her feelings. He couldn't bear to see her get even more bitter.

"I get it. You're concerned about how I'll take it. I'm a strong woman, George," Jane said as she poured herself another cup of coffee.

"Jane, you've already had six cups. I don't think you should have more," George showed his concerns.

"Coffee is all I have left. I think I should have more," Jane said, warm tears rolling down her cheeks.

It all happened a few weeks ago when Edward told her that she wasn't giving him enough attention.
"You don't even stay over anymore unless I beg you. You don't call, and you don't even care to know how I'm doing or ask about my business!" Edward yelled.

She had tried her best to make him understand that her work was demanding. She had just gotten a promotion, and her new position required a lot from her. But Edward didn't give her a chance to explain, let alone listen.

So she decided to give him some time.
He would calm down after a few days, and then we could talk things over. she had thought.
But it didn't happen that way because a week later, she received a text from Edward.

Hi Jane. I'm sorry to say this, but this relationship can't continue. The love is no longer there. I strongly suggest we end things now to avoid anyone getting hurt.

She had called him multiple times and sent him countless texts, pleading for a second chance.

Then a few days ago, she saw him with her bestie, Sandra, being all lovey-dovey in a supermarket. She wanted to rush over, but George stopped her, telling her not to embarrass herself.

Sandra was the girl she trusted so much. She would always go to her whenever she had issues with Edward. After giving her advice, Sandra would always say that Edward wasn't the best man for her.

And now, she's seeing that same Edward. Her posts are all over social media, declaring her love for him. And that stupid Edward couldn't deny it. He even changed his status from single to "in a relationship."

"Men are scum!" Jane screamed as the memories kept flowing in.

"I did everything for him. And this is how he chooses to repay me," she said, pouring herself another cup of coffee.

"George, do you know what hurt me the most? It's the fact that he left me for my best friend. She should have been here to tell me Ed would come back," she sobbed. "But they both left me."

George gently rubbed her hand, to calm her down.
"I'm sorry, Jane. I believe everything happens for a reason. For Edward to go out with your best friend shows he's not the right man for you. You deserve better," he said.

"you're beautiful, intelligent, compassionate, and hard-working. You're a queen, and no man should bring you down," George said, gazing into her eyes.

He didn't know how to tell her what had been on his mind.
And he knew this might not be the best time to do it. But he decided to just spill it out. It's better than never having a second chance to say it.
So he positioned himself well, held her hands, and opened his mouth.

"Jane."
A familiar voice interrupted, and they both turned. Edward, Sandra, and two escorts walked towards them, each carrying bunches of flowers.

"Jane, I'm sorry I made you cry. I never left you and I never will. I just wanted to make sure you still wanted me. So I asked Sandra to pretend we were dating. We were in the coffee shop's CCTV room, knowing you would come here as we always do. Please forgive me if I've hurt you so deeply," Edward said, with one knee on the floor.

Jane took the flower from him and smelled it. The fresh scent of roses mixed with the aroma of her coffee filled her nose and warmed her heart. It tasted like love, and she wished that feeling would last forever.

"You are my everything, Ed, and you too, Sandra," she said.

George clapped as the couple embraced each other.

He thanked his lucky stars that he didn't mess things up by telling Jane what was in his heart.

Like seriously, I didn't get to tell her what was on my mind. That made me upset, it meant I had to find another love of my life.

I love your story, I didn't get a clue about what would happen in the end. The test from Edward was expensive.

You made errors with names in some parts, would you mind checking again?

Lol! You don't have to steal someone else's, go find your own.😜

I'm glad I was able to build suspense.

About the names, is it Edward and Ed?

Lolz, I will find mine.

You mentioned John somewhere instead of George... I guess you wanted to mention that Edward knelt in the end but you said George.

Jane passed the test and Edward can be sure that work was the setback in their relationship. After that, he will never doubt her love for him.

Awww! You saw his moves in such a great way, I didn't even think of that.
You are right, Edward will now trust her even more than before.

Breakups can be heartwrenching. It is almost inhumane to play these types of games to test the relationship. Edward is lucky that Jane loved him so much and was so welcoming. Edward's return was timely - before George shared what was in his heart. All ended well.

It was a bit confusing as Sandra was mentioned as Edward's bestie - then Jane's.
In addition, George's name became John.

It was an expensive game on Jane. I'm glad none of them was disappointed at the end.

The names have been corrected.
Thank you so much for your great feedback❤️.

I couldn't predict the end of your story..it was so captivating. At first, I thought that George will take over the love but then Edward showed up just at the right time... beautifully written phyna
