SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge! REGAL PERYTON - by @pero82
Hello everyone! Pozdrav svima!
This week I'm going to show you one of my battles featuring Regal Peryton - great rare Earth card introduced to the game with the Chaos Legion release. It's one of the starter cards, so it can be played from the start.
THEME: REGAL PERYTON
Edition: CHAOS LEGION
Rarity: RARE
Element: EARTH
Attack: MAGIC
Abilities: Flying
~~ LORE ~~
They say there is nothing more beautiful than a Regal Peryton. They prefer to live in the mountains all across the Splinterlands, rarely seen by others. When they soar through the skies, the sunlight catches through their wings and creates rainbows underneath them. Regal Perytons are highly intelligent and consider themselves noble guardians of the natural world, using their magic to help others.
Rihue lay upon a rocky outcropping on the side of the mountain, shivering beneath an overcast sky. He stared at his ruined leg and his broken ankle.
He’d been hunting game and gathering fruits and berries for his wife and daughter who lived back home in their little cabin when he’d slipped and shattered his leg on the rocks. He’d shouted himself hoarse, but it was no use. No one could hear him. No one was coming.
That had been three days ago. His food and water were gone. He couldn’t make it back down the mountain on his own. He was going to die.
But then Rihue heard a call like that of a bird and saw a creature descending through the sky toward him. It had the head and body of a stag, with massive antlers upon its head, but instead of forelegs, two mighty wings grew from its shoulders. Its coat and feathers were white and shades of purple, and it was the most beautiful creature Rihue had ever seen.
The Regal Peryton landed beside him on the outcropping and regarding him with one intelligent eye. Then it lowered itself and, with a nod of its majestic head, extended a wing.
Rihue crawled toward it, up the wing and onto the creatures back. He clung tightly as it spread its wings and soared into the sky, down the mountain, and toward salvation.
~~ STATS ~~
This is an awesome card that I use in almost every Earth splinter line-up. Whether its low, mid or high mana battles, because for 5 mana you get a card that does magic damage (1 on at level 1, up to 3 at max level), its very quick (5 speed at level 1, up to 7 at max level), its has very nice 6 health points (8 at max level).
But what makes this card special is Flying ability (Has an increased chance of evading Melee or Ranged attacks from Monsters who do not have the Flying ability).
Flying is extremely useful ability. It makes this card irreplaceable in so many different situations - I will try to mention a couple:
- It's a must have in Earthquake ruleset because Earthquake doesn't do damage against flying monsters.
- It is very useful in Armored Up ruleset, or against any team that is expected to have armor, because magic damage ignores armor.
- It can tank. Yes you read it right, it can be used as a tank versus slower melee and/or ranged attack monsters. Flying gives us 25% evade chance, and speed difference gives us 10% more for every extra speed point we have. For example, versus 1 speed monster at level 2 and up it will have 75% chance to evade an attack (25% from Flying + 50% from speed difference) - that's HUGE.
~~ BATTLE ~~
Today's battle was played during a Gold level tournament hosted by @splinterrents (big shout-out to the guys behind that project, they're doing a brilliant job). I picked this battle because I played against stronger team (at least on paper). I was playing a silver level deck versus gold level deck. And not just any deck - Llama+Kron combination (both at level 3). In the end it was better strategy and card placement that prevailed and not card level.

~~ RULESET ~~
Ruleset in this battle played into my hand, because I chose
I will try to explain each part of the ruleset, so you get the better understanding what was I thinking when I picked my line-up.
~~ STRATEGY REVIEW ~~
My plan was to take advantage of Equalizer ruleset as much as possible. I chose monsters that were either very cheap (1 mana) or had a lot of damage but low health.
I was thinking, if my opponent picks a monster with high HP, it will probably cost quite some mana, and then the rest of his team won't be that strong. So it will take him much more time to go through my whole team then me through his.
I picked summoner Obsidian that gave me +1 magic attack and my team was very well balanced, with cheap cards in front of my damage dealers and a healer.
My opponent, on the other hand, picked summoner Scarred Llama Mage that costs more mana then my summoner, and of course, he paired it with Kron the Undying who is also quite expensive and has a lot of HP. That played into my hand perfectly because it boosted my team's health, and his team suffered because he didn't have much mana for other cards, so there was a huge disbalance on his side.
Another thing to bring your attention to - this was a gold level tournament, and I was playing with my silver level deck, while my opponent had gold level cards. That didn't help him much.
In fact, that helped me more then it did him.
~~ LINE-UP ~~
You can see the line-up from both teams in battle screenshot right after this section. I will go through my line-up and explain why was each card picked and put in that spot.
Earth splinter rare summoner that increases friendly magic attack by 1.
I chose this summoner because I wanted to as much fire power I can get, because health wasn't and issue - all monsters will have the same. Obsidian is one of most used summoners, because of its magic attack buff. |
Pretty decent common card from Earth splinter. My favorite 1 mana tank.
Well, you can't really call it a tank because it usually gets one-shotted, but Equalizer changes the playing field here and its Thorns ability really shined this match. I put it in the first position so it does most damage with the Thorns. |
Legendary card that I almost always use in low mana cap matches.
Excellent spot filler, something like Mycelic Morphoid but much much more expensive (financially). In this ruleset it becomes much more then a mere spot filler - it becomes a pretty decent tank. |
Very good rare Earth splinter card. Whenever I use magic attack in Earth splinter I turn to it, because of its high speed, health and of course mana attack.
It has Flying ability right from the start making it super useful all the time, for its extra chance to make opponent miss an attack, and when facing Earthquake ruleset. I put it in third position because out of the remaining damage dealers it has biggest chance to evade attacks. Definitely one of the stars of this battle. |
Awesome rare Earth splinter magic attack healer. Low speed and health but decent magic attack and great Tank Heal ability.
At level 4 it acquires Affliction ability, at level 7 Silence and at max level (10) Dispel ability. This monster makes way into every magic line-up I can think off. Its only flaw is low health, but that was nullified in this battle by the ruleset. I put it in fourth position, the most protected position - from the front and the back, since I need it for its heals and damage. |
Amazing legendary neutral card. He was the first Chaos legion Airdrop card from limited Pre-Sale promotion.
Right from first level it has Affliction and Camouflage abilities, level after that it gets Poison, then Scavenger and then Weaken. If that's not amazing, I don't know what is. I put him in the fifth position, so it can live longer and attack longer. |
Another amazing legendary, from Earth splinter. Low mana cost, but decent magic attack and useful abilities.
At level 1 he has Camouflage, on level 2 Void and on level 3 Weaken abilities. Combined with 3 magic attack at max level, and considering you get all that for just 3 mana, it's simply awesome. I put him in the last position because he can't get attacked anyways, so I might as well get the most of his damage output. |
~~ COURSE OF THE BATTLE ~~
This was a long fight, due to two factors - Equalizer ruleset gave all the monsters huge amount of HP because Kron has that much, and second thing is that Kron has Heal ability and paired with Llama and Last stand he heals very much so it takes some time to kill him.
Round 1&2
As predicted the battle started out slow, it took me 2 rounds to take out their Failed Summoner that my opponent put as his main tank. All the damage my little tank took, my healer managed to heal.
Round 3&4
Next two rounds were a carbon copy of the first two rounds, with a difference that my tank took a bit more damage, but he still stood his ground.
Round 5&6
Coming into round 5 my opponent was left with only 3 monsters on the team, with his Fiend barely alive at 2 HP. He was dealt with swiftly by our star - Regal Peryton.
They managed to kill my Mycelic Morphoid in the round 6 but that was their first and only kill.
Round 7
In the round 7 Kron was the only monster alive in the opponent's team, so the Last Stand ability he got from the summoner kicked in.
But it was just a matter of time before he lay down his staff and joins the rest of his team in eternal hunting grounds.
Round 9
Not even his 20 HP and 5 magic damage could help him sustain all the damage output my whole team brought onto him.
After hanging on for 2 rounds, he finally fell in round 9.
~~ RESULT ~~
Nice win against a formidable opponent with stronger deck. In the end we finished the tournament with exact amount of points. GG
~~ CONCLUSION ~~
Did your strategy work?
- Yes, my strategy worked out better then expected. Putting a couple of cheap cards to have more mana for damage dealers was a perfect move.
What will you try differently next time?
- Probably nothing. It would be nice if I had Khmer Princess at level 4 so she could heal together with Goblin Psychic, then thise would be even easier.
Do you like REGAL PERYTON? Why or why not?
- Regal Peryton is the card I use whenever play Earth splinter with magic monsters, or when I have Earthquake ruleset. Its amazing how good it is.

Since REGAL PERYTON card is a magic attack, it damages the opponent's health. The speed of this card is also very good so I like it very much. Since this card's flying ability misses the opponent's melee and ranged attacks, it is easy for me to win the battle. Thank you very much for sharing this post.

I wonder if without "DOCTOR BLIGHT" it would have been possible to beat "Llama" and "kron"?.
Yeah, probably not. Affliction is a nasty thing 😎
