Why is the EU slowly killing its economy because of Natural Gas?

US price versus EU price, what a difference

I am not going to answer this question, because truly, I don't have a clue why the EU is keeping up this policy. Or maybe I have a hunch.

The fact is, natural gas in Europe is soaring, if you compare the price of natural gas in Europe with the price of natural gas in the USA, you see that here in the EU we are paying more than ten times what the Americans are paying for it. That difference is, to say the least, humongous. It is killing the European Economy, surely but slowly.

The official reason is that because of the war that Russia started in Ukraine, the EU put up sanctions against Russia, which are now backfiring because of Russia slowly closing the gas tap. But, I don't buy that official explanation. I really don't believe, that the EU is deliberately willing to pay multiple times the normal price of gas, just out of ideology against Russia. Any normal human being would try to find an economic solution with Russia to get this price down again. Especially because it is making Europe extra vulnerable on the global market, as we are the only continent where prices are this high.

Green deal behind it?

Before the Corona pandemic Europe got hit by demonstrations of "yellow vest" movements and especially children striking from school against global warming. The politicians found no answer to these uprisings, and the EU was on the brink of crumbling down. So, what is the best way to push a green agenda through and don't get riots in the streets because of rising gas and oil prices are choking people's necks? You look for an enemy that makes people's eyes all looking in the same direction, and the ranks get closed. That is exactly what is happening now. No riots in the streets, even though, inflation is higher than ever, gas and oil prices are almost unaffordable. Small businesses have only months left to survive at these prices. But... no "Yellow Vests" in the streets. Strange? Nope, the enemy is Russia, according to the official story, and Putin is causing these prices, and people buy the story.

In the mean time, the EU is pushing through a green agenda, faster than ever. New cars with combustion engines will not be allowed on the market anymore as of 2026.
Wind farms rise up everywhere in the North Sea, almost everybody is applying for an electric loading station at their homes, as they get subsidized for it. Nuclear power plants that were planned to get closed, are prolongued for years to come.
The "Green Power" has taken over Europe, very fast and very smoothly. Thanks to Vladimir Putin, or should I say No Thanks... I don't know what to think anymore. But one thing is for sure, this is a very risky move by the European Union, that needs to pay off quickly, or we get smashed back to the middle ages.

Sincerely,

Pele23

The EU has no particular anti-nuclear stance. Some countries are building more nuclear while others are being stupid about nuclear power.

The reason for the sanctions against Russia is very simple: security. It is not "ideology" but physical security. This is actual war.

Anyone who knows anything about European history knows that Russia is an imperialistic power obsessed with dominating Eastern Europe. If Ukraine falls, Moldova is next. After Moldova comes Georgia and then Kazakhstan.

Russian propagandists have been talking about eliminating the Baltic states and then Poland. Putin himself has talked about restoring Russia's sphere of interest in Europe. Eastern Europeans old enough to have seen the times prior to the collapse of the Soviet Union have seen up close what a disaster Russian rule was.

History teaches one thing about Russia and that is that it will never stop until it meets sufficient force.

Europe and the entire West are at an economic war with Russia.

If Russia closes the gas tap, Russia will lose out on gas revenue because Russia is physically unable to export more than 10% of its gas production to customers out of Europe. The pipeline infrastructure does not exist. Once the painful transition to a more sustainable energy infrastructure is finished, Russia will also be finished.

The Russian military must be crushed in Ukraine and Russia must be prevented from accessing advanced technology with which it can rebuild its military. Russia must be eliminated as the kind of clear and present threat it currently is.

Europe's addiction to cheap gas must be kicked. Fossil fuel use must be minimized globally. Europe is currently facing the worst drought in 500 years. There are serious droughts on all continents in the northern hemisphere. Excessive CO2 emissions are a very serious problem but the natural environment is being destroyed in a lot of other ways as well.

That’s the official story, but I don’t completely buy that. It’s too simple, there must be a lot more behind the scenes we don’t know about.

By the way, CO2 is a natural gas, which has been at much higher levels before there was even any industrial activity.
Climate is much more complex than CO2 alone…

What exactly do you not believe about the Russia vs. Ukraine thing? And why?

Russia does not tolerate the existence of Ukraine as a sovereign nation. A critical mass of Ukrainians disagree with Russia's view of Ukraine. That's the reason behind this conflict. This war is about the Russian empire trying to hold together. Imperialism is the Russian idea. They've been at it for centuries.

I know CO2 has been at much higher levels in the Earth's geological history. So what? Atmospheric CO2 is going up very quickly and that is causing a lot of problems for us. Global warming is one of them. The acidification of the oceans is another.

I could write a whole story here, but I won’t. History has shown us that things aren’t always what they are told to be.

About CO2, well, I have my doubts about CO2 being the main driver for climate change. I think we have very little influence on it. And change occurs anyhow. I think the production of lithium batteries is much more harmful for this planet, than fossil fuels…

This will push countries to stop using natural gas and become greener!

Environmentalists have always been trying to get rid of oil and switch over to green energy but it's just not cheap enough for people. At the same time, it's kind of crazy how far gas prices have gone and I didn't know it was that bad in Europe.

Seems like everywhere in the world we have problems I had to get out from my country due to rising prices in everything especially rising cost on food and rental but salary remains the same or they raise salary around 200 to 300 but still doesn't cover the huge rise in prices.

12 years ago you can eat a full meal that cost Rm3 now to have a full meal it will cost you RM8 to Rm12 huge price difference I miss the old days it was simpler not complicated as we are now.
