Day of Learn Your Name in Morse Code + Día de Aprende tu Nombre en Código Morse [Eng+Spa]

(Edited)
It's Thursday, January 11, and I skipped yesterday's post in my daily logs. But with how quiet my #life is, there really wasn't any exciting news to highlight. I like calm, and I try to stay away from problems or unpleasant surprises, which can make my life seem very 'flat'. But, I've seen some 'interesting lives', and I'm not too tempted to have to live them. After all, opportunities and Heroes shine brightest in misfortunes and tragedies, I don't like to suffer pain, and I'm not interested in 'shining' too much, so an uneventful life is in line with my preferences.

With such a calm day, the only relevant thing in its personal aspect is that it was a little cold, I think I'd better comment on the anniversary of today's #History. There were quite a few celebrations listed on the calendar for today, but I saw one that caught my attention. In recent times, I have focused my blog on food, but today I chose something different, it is a topic of communications and #technology. Rather, it is about a code that became a key piece for long-distance communication during the 19th century, with electrical devices. It's 'Day of Learn Your Name in Morse Code'.

Communication is one of the important elements in the development of a civilization, as well as transportation, logistics, and the capabilities to sustain the life of the population. Sometimes we don't see it, but being able to communicate over great distances, almost instantly, was a revolution.

The origin of the Morse code is in the United States, with Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail, who began working with the idea of achieving a code that would make it possible to transmit information by means of an #electric telegraph. The essential thing is that initial models of #telegraphs already existed, but outside of research curiosity, their limitations of use to communicate messages were very evident. A code or language was needed that would allow the clicks of a telegraph to be used in a more complete way.

They began working on this idea in the 1830s, which coincides with certain expansion activities of the United States towards the center and west of its current territory. Communication is a necessary and important part of the domain, government, and control of a territory, so it can be said that this idea was in tune with the needs of its time.

The development of this initial code lasted several years, I even read that even after a decade they were not sure if they had completed an efficient code. But, in 1844, they managed to test their first message in code for wired electric telegraph. The message transmitted reflected the religiosity of its creators and was: 'What has God done!' Message in Morse #code that was transmitted on the newly built telegraph line between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, in the East Coast.

The success of #Morse code was a very good thing for other companies, by 1950 its use had been implemented in other telegraph lines. In addition, it was internationalized, and an international variant was created for this code. Its use extended well into the 20th century, where it declined due to the advance of new forms of #telecommunications. But even today, this code is studied by various people in the world and I still believe that it is used in aviation emergencies, radio amateurs, and the military.

By the way, the initial image is of my name in Morse, with a translation that includes an audio that reproduces what that would sound like, I found it interesting. Well, I say goodbye, wishing you that you are well and that we can read again another time.

Great to hear that you are alive and well Pedro, and that you have learned to write your name in Morse code, and thanks for sharing about it's history, though I think you got the century wrong on the dates, thanks for sharing and stay awesome.

You're right, the first message was not in 1944, but in 1844, I'll fix it.

We have seen the use of Morse code in the movies only. It appears that there is a lot to learn to create the signals using Morse code and to interpret them.

Thanks for sharing information about it.
